Supper Series: Our Picks for Late-Night Fried Chicken

These four spots are practically open around the cluck.

There's magic in fried chicken. Especially when it arrives at your table sizzling hot with a crispy, coated skin. Korean fried chicken took the island by storm several years back with its twice-fried crispy goodness but now eateries specialising in the fried delicacy are dime a dozen.

Here are our four picks that will satisfy your late-night fried chicken cravings.

Kko Kko Nara
68 Tanjong Pagar Road
Opening hours: 12pm to 3pm for lunch 6pm to 3am for dinner, Mon to Sat. 6pm to 1am for dinner, Sunday.

Opened until 3am on most days, Kko Kko Nara represents one of our pioneering Korean fried chicken restaurants. In its heyday, the waiting time to get a table at the eatery could range anywhere from half an hour to an hour and a half. Today, the wait averages 15 minutes but it remains one of the most popular spots among foodies for their late-night fried chicken fix.

The chickens they toss into the fryer here are young chooks, which explains why they're so tender. Customers can choose to order the fried chickens in half or full portions (prices begin at $15) in a variety of sauces: spicy, sweet & spicy, garlic and original.
Oven & Fried Chicken
182 Telok Ayer Street
Opening hoursL 11.30am to 2.30pm for lunch, 5.30 to 12am for dinner, Mon to Fri. 4pm to 12am, Sat & Sun.

We call Oven & Fried Chicken the best of both worlds for they serve incredibly tender Korean fried chicken in a variety of sauces on top of their usual soy and spice. Oven & Fried Chicken serves half and full portions of chicken in a Jambalaya and chili padi sauce too. And customers can choose to have them boneless, as is or only with the wings. Adventurous eaters will also be happy to know that they serve a mean silkworm soup that's delicious.

Choo Choo Chicken
33 Bali Lane
Opening hours: 11.30am to 11pm

Located at the base of a nondescript shophouse along Bali Lane is one of the better spots for Korean fried chicken. Pay the cosy 24-seater a visit and you'll find yourself transported to Korea; most of the customers that patronise the humble eatery were referred to the eatery by friends and friends of their friends.
Chicken Up
48 Tanjong Pagar Rd #01-01
Opening hours: 5pm to 2am, Mon to Thurs. 5pm to 3am, Fri & Sat. 5pm to 1am, Sun.

Here's after first-wave Korean fried chicken hotspot that's got your late-night cravings covered. The popular eatery still operates out of their original shop on Tanjong Pagar Road but they've has since expanded to five other locations: Orchard, Marine Parade, Jurong East, Sengkang and Bugis.

While their chicken is clearly the star (their spicy and soy flavours are their bestsellers), the other dishes on the menu are good too. Customers return not just for the chicken but for the watermelon soju served in a hollowed out half watermelon ($38), snow squid tteok-bokki (stir-fried rice cakes; $35) and bulgogi fries ($18).
