Dining out can be challenging with so many incredible options within the MICHELIN Guide selection. That's why we leave it to our famously anonymous Inspectors to find the best of the best. However, not everyone can go to MICHELIN spots every day. That's why we're asking figures from the MICHELIN universe, along with some notables from the worlds of art, culture, and entertainment, to share their weekly food diaries.
From MICHELIN Guide Starred meals to more lo-fi fare, we want to share what some of the most famous figures are munching on in their daily lives. From Patti Ann’s (a restaurant and bakery featuring creative takes on comfort food) to 5 Acres (an intimate dining room focused on bringing seasonal plates to Manhattan), and Olmsted (neighborhood gem with an ingredient-driven menu sourced from green market and backyard garden), we asked the celebrated (and busy) chef to share his weekly diet.
So whether it's a quick breakfast at Rockefeller Center or Chinese takeout for dinner, here's everything Baxtrom eats in a week.
And in case you missed it, check out everything Daniel Humm of Three MICHELIN Star, Eleven Madison Park, eats in a week here.
Monday
Breakfast
For breakfast, I grab an Amazon to-go coffee in Rockefeller Center, followed by yogurt and granola at 5 Acres. It has lemon curd, mandarin oranges, coconut, and seed granola.
Lunch
Lunch is a Parlor coffee from 5 Acres, and a sandwich from Potbelly with roast beef and provolone, lettuce, tomato, mayo, and Giardiniera.
Dinner
I skipped dinner because I snacked on an excessive amount of bacon throughout the day. Made "Chicago'' popcorn--cheddar and caramel mixed together--as a recipe test for my forthcoming cookbook, followed by an ice cream sandwich before bed.
Tuesday
Breakfast
Dunkin' Donuts French Press coffee, followed by the new buttermilk pancakes at 5 Acres.
Lunch
Lunch is a roasted chicken bowl from FIELDTRIP by JJ Johnson. It has jollof basmati rice, veggies, avocado-cilantro sauce, and pickled red onions. And crab pockets...these little crab rangoon-like things. Super tasty. Tasted the new squash soup with chestnut and caviar at Olmsted as well.
Dinner
Ordered Han Dynasty for dinner - Dried pepper chicken, string beans with minced pork, and wontons in chili oil. I used to get it super spicy but can't handle the heat after I stopped drinking. Ice cream sandwich before bed.
Wednesday
Breakfast
Had to check out the restaurant I'm selling, so I had my go-to fruit and veggie smoothie: wheatgrass, pineapple, banana, berries, apples, kale. I get it from the juice shop next to Olmsted. Most of the staff start their day there. Then I got a coffee at Foodtown because the owners are my landlords and we get along well. They are always offering me coffee and sandwiches. Such nice people. Then I quality checked some of the pastries at Patti Ann’s. The Brussels and ham quiche is particularly good right now.
Lunch
I skipped lunch because I knew I was going to be cooking dinner (mostly practice for the cookbook).
Dinner
I made beef short ribs and pomme dauphinoise aka au gratin potatoes for dinner - working on some new recipes for the book. Finished with an ice cream sandwich before bed.
Thursday
Breakfast
Nespresso coffee at home. Coffee from Hungry Ghost while I hung Christmas decorations at Patti Ann’s.
Lunch
Lunch was a roasted turkey sandwich with harissa mayo - lots of crunchy salt.
Dinner
For dinner I had Noods N' Chill Pad kee Mao but the main thing to get is Yum Pak Bonng Krob, the watercress salad with minced pork, shrimp, rice, and so much more. Nerds rope (candy) before bed!
Friday
Breakfast
At 6am I run to Petite Patate to leave a key in for a repair man. Uber to JFK to head to Chicago to do some work on the new restaurant I’m opening there. Small coffee at Dunkin’ Donuts with oat milk and some rock hard pineapple. Gross small coffee on the plane.
Lunch
After landing, I head straight to the bank. In such a small town the banker literally insists on driving me to my parents' house. I catch up with my mom and dad while eating goop, aka French onion dip, that my mom made.
Dinner
For dinner we head to Fat Rosie's for Mexican food. I saw a sizzling tray of steak fajitas and had to have them. For dessert my folks had a Neapolitan ice cream sandwich.
Saturday
Brunch
My mom felt like cooking so we made a frittata using eggs from their hens and a K-cup of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee. My folks always have American cheese and Krakus ham, so for lunch, I had that on Wonder Bread with mayo and mustard and a grapefruit La Croix.
Dinner
Snack was more Chips a goop. Drove to my brother's house to see the new 10-day-old baby boy. Ordered Tavern-style Chicago pizza from Vito and Nicks. The restaurant is a South Side staple, and has a really old-school feel to it, including some shag carpeting on the walls. We opted for a cheese pie and a sausage, pepper, and onion pie. Best in the city.
Sunday
Breakfast
Woke up and went to a local coffee shop in downtown Frankfort called Grounded to have a large drip with oat milk. Walked to the new restaurant location, a historical space in town where the mayor himself and his lovely wife were waiting for me. We walked through the new restaurant talking about the plans.
Lunch
Went grocery shopping so I could cook dinner. Skipped lunch.
Dinner
For dinner, I let my little nephews each pick a dish. One of them picked steak, another picked fried chicken, and another picked buttered noodles. Went grocery shopping together, and then I made some rib-eye, cooked to medium and thinly sliced for easy sharing. Then I made some spaetzle and tossed it with butter and lots of pepper, almost like a cacio e pepe. For the fried chicken, I like to use a brine with buttermilk and pickle juice, then shallow fry it in a cast iron skillet.
