San Francisco: Dominique Crenn Sets Opening Date For Bar Crenn

Located next to her two Michelin-starred Atelier Crenn, Bar Crenn is vintage French wine bar meets Northern California cool.

Earlier this week, Dominique Crenn announced via Instagram the opening date for her latest venture, Bar Crenn. Set to make its debut on February 20, Bar Crenn will be an "homage to the classics of French gastronomy."

The menu will feature a rotating cast of approximately eight dishes all meant for sharing. Included among these menu items are a bevy of recipes that have been borrowed from a cadre of the best French chefs from around the world, such as the tarte flambée (more or less an Alsatian pizza) from Alain Ducasse of Benoit New York and bouchées de champignon de Paris aux escargot (mushrooms with snails) from three-Michelin-starred Yannick Alléno at Pavillon Ledoyen. The kitchen will also showcase some of its own versions of traditional dishes, such as with cannelés de Bordeaux.

Designed by Karan Brady Interiors, the space is meant to "reflect the sensory experience of an elegant and antique French wine bar inspired by the lounges of the 1930s in Paris," Crenn says. In this vein, wine director Matt Montrose has assembled "a collection of the great wines of France and beyond that channel, our shared philosophy of environmental responsibility, where vignerons and Domaines are showcased that prioritize traditional methods of viticulture as well as careful and thoughtful stewardship of the land," Crenn continues.

Located next door to Atelier Crenn, Bar Crenn is meant to be an extension of the two-Michelin-starred restaurant where guests can go to begin or end their dining experience. Diners can grab one of low-ABV cocktails to start their meals that are designed as a "nod to old-style French aperitifs, but with a modern and localized element of Northern California ingredients and inspirations," states Crenn.

There will be approximately 26 seats plus and additional six at the bar, two of which can be reserved to experience the full Atelier Crenn menu. Reservations can be made via Tock, with a number of walk-ins available nightly.
