The auspicious day of reunions and family feasts on the eve of the Lunar New Year falls on 28 January 2025, with the main festival kicking off good and proper the very next day.
In other words, anyone looking to guarantee a worry-free yuletide holiday and restive January both would be well served to start looking and booking their abundant poon choi pots and yu sheng platters right now.

The resplendent 5-Head Fresh Abalone Treasure Pot (S$558, serves six; S$800, serves 10) starts the festivities off with a decadent poon choy pot heaving with a bounty of five-head abalones, fresh prawns, scallops, sea cucumbers, roasted duck, dried oysters, pig’s skin, and more.
That’s not the only Lunar New Year mainstay you can look forward to, as the restaurant will also be offering the Fatt Choy Hamachi Yu Sheng in “Soon Tak” Style (S$128, serves four to six; S$248, serves six to 10) for festive lo heis, an auspicious Glutinous Rice Cake (S$29.80), and even the rib-sticking pair of Yam Cake (S$33.80) and Carrot Cake (S$33.80) for all-round joyous feasting.
Those who’d rather take the revelry outside of the home are more than welcome to indulge in a selection of Chinese New Year set menus at the restaurant with sets ranging from S$158 per person to a glorious S$688 each for the most exquisite set, with highlights including Braised 15-Head South African Whole Dried Abalone with Hokkaido Sea Cucumber in Oyster Sauce, and Baked Australian Lobster with Dried Fish. Fresh out of its near-six-month-long facelift, one-MICHELIN-Starred Shisen Hanten commemorates its first Chinese New Year in refreshed digs with an extensive range of festive offerings inflected by its Japanese, Sichuanese, and Cantonese influences.
All who visit the newly furbished restaurant can look forward to being regaled with one of six dine-in set menus (S$168++ to S$388++ per diner) thoughtfully curated for parties of all sizes, available from 19 January to 12 February 2025. Diners who prefer not to be locked into a fixed menu are also free to enjoy Shisen Hanten’s returning à la carte signatures, which include Roasted Irish Silver Hill Duck in “Dang Gui” Sauce, Foie Gras Chawanmushi with Crab Roe Soup, and Chen’s Mapo Tofu (referring to the restaurant’s patron, Chen Kentaro).
But even those who prefer to ring in the Year of the Snake from the comfort of their home are not left out of the celebration, as they’ll be duly equipped with festive centrepieces like the Shisen Hanten Abundant Fortune Pot (S$518 for takeaway, feeds four to six) boasting roasted duck, pork knuckle, whole abalone, Japanese scallops, live prawns, and sea cucumber simmered in a flavourful stock. The kicker? For a taste of MICHELIN-Starred Cantonese flair this Year of the Snake, look to Summer Pavilion’s roster of Lunar New Year treats. We’re talking familiar favourites like chef Cheung Siu Kong’s signature ten-layered poon choi pot positively stuffed with exquisite seafood and meats including sea perch, scallops, fish maw, and abalone; along with a reimagined take on a traditional festive salad with an indulgent prickly sea cucumber yusheng.
Both of these Chinese New Year delights will be made available at the restaurant, along with a selection of six- to eight-course set lunch and dinner menus priced from S$158++ per head, with highlights on the menu such as a hearty steamed vermicelli crowned with king scallop, caviar, crab roe, and egg white; steamed Dong Xing grouper fillet with luffa gourd and black fungus; and a nourishing double-boiled chicken soup with fish maw, matsutake mushroom, dried scallop, and soaked nostoc algae.

If all the poon choi, yusheng, and bakkwa (grilled pork jerky) of the season is getting to you, it might be time to ring in the Lunar New Year with a Peranakan-inspired twist. Enter Rempapa’s kueh team, presenting for the Year of the Snake a selection of handcrafted heritage treats that pay tribute to Southeast Asian culinary traditions.
There’s Kueh Bengka (S$65 for a whole cake, or S$12 for a four-piece set), a naturally gluten-free, golden-crusted tapioca cake made fragrant and luxurious with lashings of coconut milk and pandan; as well as Kueh Kosui (S$14 per set), an addictive wobbly snack hewn from rice flour, tapioca, and caramelly gula melaka (palm sugar) that’s served smothered in a delicious cloud of grated coconut. Great for festive gifting, and even better as a conversation starter on the living room table — though you might find guests hankering for a second helping or three.

As is tradition, restaurants all around Singapore will soon be recreating the upcoming year’s zodiac animal in yusheng form, and Shang Palace is no exception. Slithering onto their festive à la carte dine-in menu is the Auspicious Snake Yu Sheng (S$268++), which features an adorable snake masterfully crafted from head to tail with mango and an interlocking body of dragon fruit and green and yellow Italian cucumber.
Paired with smoked salmon and jellyfish, the festive yusheng comfortably feeds six to eight, serving as a lavish appetiser to the restaurant’s quintet of eight-course Chinese New Year menus (from S$198++ to S$398++ per person), with highlights including Buddha Jumps Over the Wall, Braised South African Candy Heart Dried Abalone, Sautéed Lobster, and Braised Bird’s Nest Broth with Conpoy. These menus are available from 13 January to 12 February 2025.
Festive indulgences can also be found in the form of à la carte delights — think Sautéed Egg White with Cod Fish topped with Conpoy and Crab or Roasted Peking Duck — and a Lunar New Year-themed dim sum menu during lunch hours.
Home feasters are also welcome to snag the Abundance Pen Cai (S$528, serves eight) featuring over 18 luxurious ingredients like abalone, fish maw, sea cucumber, pork knuckle, and sweet-and-sour pan-fried prawn simmered for over six hours, as well as a a variety of yusheng variations heavy with lobster, Norwegian salmon, or South African abalone.

Whether you opt for the indulgent six-course menu at S$168++ per head or the elevated eight-course feast (S$1,888++ for a table of 10), prepare for auspicious Snake Year abundance by way of menu highlights like Japanese Somen with Braised 6-head Abalone — where the noodles long strands symbolise longevity and prosperity — and the Steamed Sea Perch Fillet with Red Date and Tangerine Peel, where the sweetness of the fork-tender fish is enhanced and uplifted with a hit of citrus and fragrant red dates.
