Affectionately known to many as ‘Uncle William’, William Ho's smiley demeanour is a familiar sight among the small community of farmers in Singapore’s northern Kranji countryside.
The 50-year-old first started helping out with his father's farming business as a young boy and today co-manages the family’s Lian Wah Hang Quail Farm, one of Singapore's oldest existing farms and also one of the scarce few rearing quail. Their brood of over 130,000 quails produce over 50,000 eggs per day, which they sell to supermarkets and restaurants around the island.
In this video, Mr Ho as shares more about his uncommon passion for the palm-sized fowls and what keeps him motivated despite the many challenges that farmers face in land-scarce Singapore.
