This ryotei is in a hilly area of Higashiyama. The first-generation owner-chef opened it as Yamatoya in Osaka, and the third-generation owner-chef moved it to Kyoto. The stalwarts of the Meiji Restoration are said to have met in this building, which makes it now a municipally protected structure. The Soyotei annex offers views of Kyoto, including Yasaka Pagoda. Classic, sophisticated kaiseki cuisine is served and the hospitable proprietress ensures a relaxing time.
