The First MICHELIN Key Hotels: All the Keys in Switzerland

The MICHELIN Guide announces top honors for Swiss hotels in 2024.

On October 9, 2024, The MICHELIN Guide revealed the brand new One, Two, and Three Key distinctions for the most outstanding hotels in Switzerland.

This announcement comes four years into a comprehensive refresh of our hotel selection. The MICHELIN Guide now includes over 5,000 hotels across the world, and not a single one is simply a room for the night. These are places that significantly add to your experience as a traveler, each vetted and judged excellent in five categories: architecture and interior design, quality and consistency of service, overall personality and character, value for the price, and a significant contribution to the guest experience in a particular setting.

Which brings us back to the Keys. The culmination of countless hours of evaluation by our Inspectors, the Key hotels below represent the highlights of our broader selection. Like the MICHELIN Stars for restaurants, the MICHELIN Keys recognize our most outstanding hotels.

In total, the 2024 MICHELIN Guide hotel selection for Switzerland includes nine Three Key hotels, 32 Two Key hotels, and 46 One Key hotels. Want to know more about the MICHELIN Key? Here's everything you need to know. Or head below to see all the Keys.

Traditional Palaces and Magnificent Viewpoints

What would Switzerland be without its magnificent hotels from the 19th century, which offer historical charm and modern luxury at the same time? Every single one of these hand-picked Key hotels is as in tune with the times today as it was back then. And of course, Switzerland's enticing combination of a unique alpine landscape and picturesque lakes means many of these hotels find themselves in truly spectacular locations.

For the most magnificent views, check out: One Key hotels Le Mirador Resort & Spa and the Grand Hotel du Luc Vevey; Two Key hotels Victoria-Jungfrau Grand Hotel & Spa, Beau-Rivage Palace Lausanne, and Lausanne Palace & Spa; and Three Key hotels Beau-Rivage Geneva, Badrutt's Palace Hotel, and the Carlton Hotel St. Moritz.

Outstanding Ski Resorts

The Alps are a huge part of Switzerland's appeal, set amidst scenes of glaciers and mountain lakes. In both summer and winter, they're a popular destination for tourists from all over the world. So it's no wonder that a large proportion of Switzerland's most exceptional hotels are located in the mountains, namely half of the country's Two and Three Key properties.

In addition to traditional hotels and palaces in St. Moritz or Arosa, expect hotels in less internationally well-known locations, such as the Two Key establishment 7132 Hotel in Vals, with direct access to a thermal spa designed by Swiss star architect Peter Zumthor; The Capra in Saas-Fee, surrounded by 4,000-meter peaks; or the luxury hotel the Chedi Andermatt, where Alpine tradition and Asian-inspired decor merge at the foot of the Gemsstock.

Intimate Key Hotels with Under 15 Rooms

Seven of the 87 Key hotels in Switzerland feature 15 rooms or fewer. The advantages of these intimate hotels are obvious: individually attentive service, tranquility, and exclusivity. They are retreats away from the mainstream.

A wonderful example is the One Key hotel Schloss Schauenstein in Graubünden, which dates back to the 12th century and has been restored with great attention to detail; there are just nine rooms here. Other highlights among our tiny Keys are the Two Key LeCrans Hotel & Spa in Valais and the One Key Relais Castello di Morcote in Italian-speaking Switzerland.
