Supper Series: 5 Wanton Mee Stalls In Singapore That Open Till Late

Check out these late-night supper spots to slurp up some tasty noodles.

When it comes to wanton mee (dumpling noodles), there is no one-size-fits-all definition what makes a good bowl. Some might prize the spice level of the chilli sauce given in small saucers at the side, while others look for a good meaty dumpling and springy noodles.

Here, we round up five late-night supper spots that have something for everyone.
Guangzhou Mian Shi Wanton Noodle Stall
#01-04, 48A Tanglin Halt Road
Opens from 5.30pm to 3am

This unassuming corner stall in Tanglin Halt Market and Food Centre is a good go-to place to quell those midnight cravings. No fancy adornments here — the dumplings are juicy with a nice crunch from bits of water chestnut, and portion sizes are decent. The highlight is the noodles that remain springy even till the last bite. Perfect for slow-eaters.

FeiFei Wan Tan Mee King
72 Joo Chiat Place
Open 24 hours

Most will remember this stall as one of two in the battle of wanton mee along Joo Chiat Road. Here, the unassuming bowl of wanton mee hides treasures such as fried wantons and tender slices of char siu under the plain-looking noodles. Best doused with the red chilli sauce served with the dish.
WANTON - Seng's Noodle Bar
52 Amoy Street
Opens from 11.30am to 2.30pm, and 6pm to 10pm (11pm on Fridays).

Don't be surprised if your bowl of wanton mee at this hip noodle bar comes with sides of roasted Spanish pork belly and a chrysanthemum tea cocktail in a old-fashioned kettle. 30-year-old Benson Ng acquired popular hawker Seng's noodle stall four years back, and is now taking it to the next level at WANTON with his gourmet renditions of the hawker staple.

Eng's Noodle House
287 Tanjong Katong Road
Opens from 11am to 9pm. Closed on alternate Mondays.

From a pushcart to its present shophouse location, the recipe for this bowl of wanton mee has been passed down for three generations (their updated Facebook account is a clear indicator that it is now in younger hands). The noodles and wantons here are good, but what really stands out is the tongue-numbingly spicy chilli sauce that remains a closely-guarded recipe. We also like helping ourselves to the big bottle of fried lard bits and scooping up a generous amount to sprinkle over our bowl.
Ji Ji Wanton Noodles
#02-49 Hong Lim Food Complex, Blk 531A, Upper Cross Street
Opens from 6am to 8.30pm

This Michelin-recommended stall is probably more of a late dinner spot than supper, but it's not hard to see why. Run by two sisters who were taught the recipe by their mother, the pair dole out saucers of magic sauce that they make in batches fresh daily. The wantons here are also the epitome of plump and juicy.
