If you ask us, every day should be Mother’s Day. But there’s something rewarding about making mum feel extra special on this day—and a delicious meal at a MICHELIN-starred restaurant may be a good place to start.
Finding the right restaurant to take mum can feel like an impossible task, especially if she says “I don’t want anything” every year. Don’t fret; we've got you covered with top dining spots that are unique guaranteed to please every type of mum this Mother's Day.
For the mum who enjoys the outdoors:
Duddell's
If alfresco dining is the way to win mum’s heart, book in for dim sum and take advantage of the lush terrace at Duddell’s. Don’t miss out on the “Weekend Salon Brunch,” which includes a selection of traditional dim sum, mains such as Peking duck, fried dicked chicken with chili, soups, rice and noodles, and classic Cantonese desserts—served fresh and unlimited to your table. Whether mum is into Champagne or meticulously crafted cocktails, the free-flow drinks packages are sure to delight.
Louise
Soak up some rays on Louise’s lush outdoor terrace decked out with rattan chairs and plants, where an all-day dining menu of specialty charcuterie, artisan cheeses, French pastries and small bites are served. Upstairs, an inviting, brightly-lit dining room awaits with a patio overlooking the property’s garden. A menu inspired by chef Julien Royer’s childhood favourites, are reimagined by executive chef Franckelie Laloum using ingredients sourced from specialty producers in France.
For the mum who likes to dine with a view:
Petrus
Claim your position as her favourite child by treating her to a sumptuous meal against the backdrop of jaw-dropping harbour views at Petrus. With an interior reminiscent of a grand Parisian salon, the food is unquestionably modern and stimulates the senses with creative plating and unexpected flavor combinations that have proven to impress time and time again. The service is attentive and the wine list is one of the best in town.
Tosca di Angelo
If you’re looking for a sky-high dining experience with mum, the dizzying vistas from Tosca di Angelo on the 102nd floor are quite hard to beat. With a menu inspired by the Mediterranean coastline, the restaurant showcases the best of Italian produce and traditional recipes from chef Angelo Agliano’s childhood. Be sure to order housemade pasta and blue lobster dishes—a favourite of MICHELIN inspectors—as well as his modern take on rum babà.
For the mum who’s into interior design:
L’Envol
Balance is the name of the game at L’Envol, evident in not only the food on the plate but also the environment it’s served in. Designed by internationally acclaimed designer Andre Fu, L’Envol boasts an airy, brightly-lit space that echoes with chef Olivier Elzer’s light and fresh approach to French fine dining, which means mum will get to indulge without feeling too heavy afterwards. The set menus are seasonal and change regularly, but you may find seafood-focused dishes such as the Hokkaido sea urchin box or Brittany razor clams.RELATED: When The Stars Align: André Fu and Olivier Elzer On Bringing Excellence To The Table
Tate
Tucked inside a two-storey building in Sheung Wan, Tate is easily one of the prettiest restaurants in Hong Kong. Designed by Hong Kong-based architect James Acuna with the help of graphic designer-turned-chef Vicky Lau, Tate’s pastel palette and soft lighting evokes a feminine aesthetic that makes it an ideal place to take mum. Merging Asian sensibilities with refined French techniques, each dish in Tate’s tasting menu tells the story of an ingredient, while the “Ode To” lunch menu—available only on Fridays and Saturdays—takes one step further with six interpretations of a single ingredient.
For the mum who is serious about wine
L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon
If mum has a taste for the finer things in life then she’ll undoubtedly enjoy being wined and dined at L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon. Contemporary French cuisine is met with an extensive 145-page wine list focusing on the regions of Bordeaux, Burgundy, California, Italy and Germany. Whether you’re looking to order by the class (there are 28 wine labels to choose from) or in the mood for rare vintages like the Château Margaux 1928, Pétrus 1947, the first vintage of Screaming Eagle 1992 and Vega Sicilia Unico 1962, there’s something for every preference. The best seat is at the counter where you can watch the chefs in action, but for more privacy ask for a table in Le Jardin.
Bâtard
The low-key, well-spaced bistro in Sai Ying Pun, is an excellent place to take mum if she wants to keep it casual. The food itself is elevated yet comforting, with standouts including the signature roast three-yellow chicken with rice pilaf and monfish en croute. But no visit to Bâtard is complete without exploring their impressive, Burgundy-focused wine list, which covers world-class labels such as DRC, Leroy, Henri Jayer, Lafites, Latours and Margaux, as well as rare gems from small growers—all at retail price.Hero image: Angel hair pasta with Kristal caviar, black truffle, and kombu from Louise (Photo: Louise)
