MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

This venerated Flatiron restaurant is stylish, attractive and continues to lure, thanks to a set of handsome ebony wood doors, an amber-tinted glow and plush, linen-robed tables. While service is not always on point, personalized touches, like the kitchen team presenting dishes themselves, more than recompense. If you're going the à la carte route, head to the casual Patiala Room. The main dining room, however, offers a formal affair with a multicourse tasting menu. This cuisine is Indian, but recent experiences have shown a more contemporary accent. Lamb chops, coated with whole grain mustard, may be gussied-up with sautéed mushrooms and garlic chutney; while khichdi flaunts a homey mix of rice, lentils and tomatoes, finished with shaved black truffles.
