Gavin Rossdale's Los Angeles is Creative and Delicious

The British rockstar and culinary host shares his favorites in the City of Angels.

Gavin Rossdale is no stranger to good food. Performing his hit song “Glycerine” at Alinea Chef Grant Achatz’s wedding, the two have become fast friends. Rossdale recently cooked at home with Achatz, who in turn said he wanted to invite him to a Michelin Star meal.

On-stage, his emotionally raw vocals have been unforgettable for over four decades. As the lead singer for Bush, Rossdale catapulted his British rock band into stardom, selling tens of millions of records.

Off-stage, his passions brought him into the kitchen. Inspired by Miles Davis who believed every musician should cook, he serves meals with the same raw emotions as his music, whether it be vegan Bolognese, a deliciously seared fish, or simple but "proper" scrambled eggs.

Most recently, he has brought his love for cooking to his TV series “Dinner with Gavin Rossdale” on VIZIO’s WatchFree+ (launching on February 13), where he serves meals to guests like Serena Williams and Brooke Shields in his own kitchen – full of music and thoughtful conversations.

Over the years, Rossdale has called Los Angeles home. We sat down with him to discuss his favorites in the city that gave him life.

What are your favorite restaurants in Los Angeles?

E Baldi
Chef Edo Baldi runs this elegant Tuscan restaurant in Beverly Hills. The food makes me happy. It’s like taking a plane to Italy, I could eat there all the time.

Vespertine
Chef Jordan Kahn has a spectacular imagination so it’s always a magical journey when he’s cooking. From Meteora to the reopened Vespertine, it’s a dinner of unfolding delights. It’s more than a meal; it’s an elevated experience.

Tell us about a hidden gem.

Tensho Shabu Shabu
The most authentic and perfect shabu shabu spot—pure bliss in every bite.

Favorite take-out spot?

Salt & Straw
Specifically, the sea salt with caramel ribbons flavor. This is the last ice cream that needs to be made, there is no point after this one. They perfected ice cream in this one flavor.

Where do you go to get outside?

Valley Vista Park
A hidden gem tucked where you’d least expect it. This sweet little park is set on rolling hills—a perfect place to relax and unwind.

Where is your favorite theater?

The Greek Theatre
The energy of the place, it’s history and the backdrop of Griffith Park. I've seen so many bands perform here, and every time, it feels like a thrill all over again.

How about a favorite bookstore?

Skylight Books (Vermont Ave.)
I used to live up the road from there. it was great to eat a late breakfast and then head over to Skylight and get lost in other people’s ideas. I love a bag of new books.

Where do you like to shop?

Lorenzo (Sunset Plaza)
This place is always well-stocked with cool and unique items. I’m into style over fashion, so it’s never been about keeping up with trends. I wait for those timeless pieces that can be worn forever.
