Bib Gourmand: good quality, good value cooking
A household name for over 60 years, Amei was remodelled after moving to this spot. Red tablecloths pop amid the wood-rich interior with trophies and historic artefacts. The small menu is big on banquet classics and century-old recipes, combining the natural umami of ingredients with locals’ love of savoury-sweet dishes. Signatures include thick shrimp soup with shredded bamboo shoot and wisps of egg, and the duck casserole slow-cooked for 3 hours.
