Supper Series: 6 Bak Chor Mee Places In Singapore For That Late-Night Fix

Check out these late-night supper spots to slurp up some tasty noodles.

Springy noodles, minced pork, and generous lashings of pork lard and tangy vinegar, a good bowl of bak chor mee (minced meat noodles) is the sum of all its parts. It's also one of those foods where you have a hand in how your bowl turns out — from picking the types of noodles (common varieties include mee pok and mee kia), and the right dose of vinegar that suits your fancy. Here, we round up six hawker stalls peddling this delicious bowl of noodles past midnight.
Yan Kee
BK Eating House, 21 South Bridge Road
Opens 24 hours, closed on Sundays

Just around the corner of rowdy bars and clubs, Yan Kee Noodle House is the go-to place for hungry party-goers and chefs looking for good nosh after a hard day’s work. The specialty here is dry mee sua, the thin white noodles being the perfect vessel to soak up the generous amount of tangy vinegar used here. A bowl of noodles comes with the usual minced pork, meatballs and mushrooms, though we recommend going all out and getting extra pork lard with this.
Tian Nan Xing Minced Pork Noodle
#01-10, 511 Food Centre, Block 511 Bedok North Street 3
Opening Hours: 7am to 1.30pm and 5.30pm to 1.30am

With over 80 years of history behind this stall, a bowl of its signature minced pork noodles remains comfort food at its best. Generous bits of minced pork and meat balls complete this traditional bowl of noodle soup, with the option to top up an extra dollar for a serving of homemade dumplings.

Ding Ji Mushroom Minced Meat Noodles
Block 284, Bishan Street 22
Opens 24 hours

A standard bowl of bak chor mee comes with the familiar bits of minced pork, slivers of mushrooms and a meatball. But the bowl of noodles gets an upgrade at Ding Ji Mushroom Minced Meat Noodles, located at Block 284 along Bishan Street 22. Here, the soup gets its deep flavour from being simmered overnight with pork bones and dried sole fish. The springy egg noodles come with slices of pork, liver and the star ingredient: good-quality fish maw (only the Bishan and Eunos outlets serve this extra ingredient).

Seng Huat Bak Chor Mee
492 North Bridge Road
Opens 24 hours

This is a stall for fans of the tangy vinegar used to dress the springy noodles. Here, you get to be as generous (or not at all) as you want with the amount of vinegar added to your bowl. Besides bak chor mee, the stall also serves fishball noodles.
Xing Ji Rou Cuo Mian
#01-07 Fengshan Centre, Block 85 Bedok North Street 4
Opening Hours: 2.30pm to 1.30am, closed on Thursdays.

One of two bak chor mee stalls in Fengshan Food Centre, this is the stall with a queue that comes with a good 40-minute wait. The noodle dough here is shaped and kneaded by hand — peek in for a look! — so the noodles are springy and hold up well in a bowl of soup.

Meng’s Kitchen
246B Upper Thomson Road
Opening Hours: Daily, 9am to 5am.

Upper Thomson Road has a reputation for being a supper haven, and Meng’s Kitchen is one of the popular picks for late-night hangouts. You get your choice of noodles — mee pok, mee sua or mee kia — here, topped with slices of lean pork, pickled mushrooms and generous cubes of lard. A bowl of warm soup on the side is always a must.
