Game of Cones: Our Top Picks for Ice Cream in Singapore

We let you in on the inside scoop.

For many of us, it's our to-go for a sweet treat after a heavy meal or a respite from the country's sweltering heat. If you, like us, believe that there's always a good time for ice cream, this list is for you.

Salted Caramel
Thomson Garden Estate, 246F Upper Thomson Road
Opening hours: 12pm to 11pm, Sun to Thurs. 12pm to 2am, Fri & Sat.

Here's one for the night owls. Salted Caramel opens until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays but customers should expect a full-house even at midnight. We recommend grabbing a scoop or two (their namesake salted caramel flavoured ice cream is a must-try) to go and take a stroll around the block. But if you've managed to snag a table, try their ice cream paired with fresh waffles for size.

The ice cream showcase at Birds of Paradise is pared down with only nine flavours for customers to choose from.

Opening hours: 12pm to 10pm, Sun to Thurs. 12pm to 10.30pm, Fri & Sat. Closed on Mondays.

Gelato in the dreamiest botanical-inspired flavours is what you get here. Think white chrysanthemum and cocoa nibs, strawberry and basil and spiced pear; absolutely perfect to fight the local heat. The concept here is takeaway only so customers will have to purchase their ice creams to go. Prices begin at $4.70 for a scoop and works up to $7.70 for two. While you're at it, it's worth shelling out an extra dollar to have your fancy scoops in a deliciously aromatic thyme-infused waffle cone.

Lickers

Opening hours: 1pm to 2am, Tues to Thurs. 12pm to 3am, Fri to Sun. Closed on Mondays.

Here's another shop for the nocturnal beings. Lickers stays open until 3am on Fridays and the weekends, catering to the north-eastern dwellers at Hougang Avenue 1. The serving portions here are truly generous and at $3.20 a giant scoop, Lickers is one of the more value-for-money options. Their more adventurous flavours seem to do best here; customers tend to opt for the oreo cookie monster that comes in a shocking bubble gum shade of blue and Yakult.
Creamier
Blk 128 Toa Payoh Lorong 1, #01-835
Opening hours: 12pm to 10pm, Sun to Thurs. 12pm to 11pm, Fri & Sat. Closed on Mondays.

It started out as a humble ice cream shop at the base of an HDB block in the heart of Toa Payoh and has since expanded to two other locations in Tiong Bahru and Gillman Barracks. Their sea salt gula melaka ice cream is one of their signatures and is the flavour has catapulted them to ice cream stardom but if you're one for the classic flavours, Creamier makes a mean pistachio ice cream too.

They've also started an ice cream delivery service where customers can get pints of their favourite flavours delivered to their doorstep. A flat delivery rate of $20 applies to orders below $150.

Apiary
84 Neil Road
Opening hours: 12pm to 10pm, Sun to Thurs. 12pm to 11pm, Fri & Sat.

Delivering customers a spot of sweet relief from the rich, savoury foods from around the area is Apiary. Helmed by two young men, Travis Goh and Brian Lee, Apiary churns out their ice creams in small batches in order to keep them fresh and creamy. Their blue milk (the blue comes from blue pea flowers) made with a pinch of salt, is one of their bestsellers, along with their black sesame ice cream. Prices start at $3.80 for a single scoop, $7.20 for double and $10 for a fancy triple.
