Michelin and Robert Parker Announce Partnership: Dining Series, Digital Initiatives

The world’s most influential names in food and wine have come together to unveil a delicious line-up

Michelin-obsessed food lovers in Hong Kong and Macau will have plenty more to look forward to when the 2017 Michelin Guide Hong Kong Macau is released on 9 November this year.

Michelin has tied up with global wine publisher Robert Parker Wine Advocate (RPWA) to collaboratively produce a dining series in Hong Kong and Macau and a slew of Michelin-branded digital initiatives, both parties announced at a press conference in Macau on Tuesday (6 Sept).

Michelin and Robert Parker Gala Dinner

Headlining the dining series is the Michelin and RPWA Gala Dinner on 11 November, the first ever Michelin-branded gala dinner for the two territories. Co-organised with the help of title partner, Macau-based Melco Crown Entertainment Group, the gala dinner will be held at their Studio City Grand Ballroom in Macau.

For one evening only, seven chefs from starred restaurants in the 2016 Hong Kong Macau guidebook and globally renowned chefs specially flown in from France, Sweden and Japan will come together to create an extravagant six-course menu for 700 diners. This will be complemented by top-rated wine selections by RPWA, as well as a visual feast by Oscar-nominated Hollywood costume designer Manuel Albarran. The dinner is open to the public and diners can start purchasing their gala dinner seats through the brand new Michelin Guide Hong Kong Macau website (guide.michelin.com.hk) launched today.

As was the practice in previous years, the 2017 guidebook’s selections will be unveiled on 9 November in an award ceremony in Hong Kong attended by awardee chefs, media and industry professionals.

International Chefs Showcase

As part of the dining series, Michelin and RPWA will also roll out an International Chefs Showcase featuring culinary creations by chefs from Michelin-starred restaurants around the world, paired with exquisite pours handpicked by RPWA’s esteemed team of wine critics.

Kicking off the line-up from October is French chef Julien Royer, who will be presenting his very first guest chef dinner since garnering two Michelin stars for his Singapore restaurant Odette in July. The second showcase in November will turn the spotlight on American chef Curtis Duffy of three-Michelin-starred Grace in Chicago. A local street food showcase is in the pipeline and will be announced at a later date.

Digital Extensions

RPWA, with the support of Michelin, will additionally develop a fully searchable online database and digital mobile app containing the full selection of the 2017 Michelin Guide Hong Kong Macau - the 9th edition since the guidebook started publishing in the two territories in 2008. This will be complemented by a gourmet lifestyle editorial website that will publish daily updated original content covering the latest Michelin news and restaurant trends in Hong Kong and Macau from next month.

The new initiatives for Hong Kong and Macau mark Michelin and RPWA’s second partnership after coming together to launch the inaugural Michelin Guide Singapore earlier in July 2016.

That collaboration produced similar brand extensions into food and wine events in Singapore, online and digital mobile app versions of the 2016 Singapore guide, and a Singapore-centric gourmet lifestyle editorial website, guide.michelin.sg.

“The success of our cooperation in Singapore encouraged us to reiterate this series of events in Hong Kong and Macau - cities where gastronomy is synonymous with passion,” Bernard Delmas, Senior Vice President, said at the press conference.

“Fully independent from the selection process of the Michelin guide on the one hand, and from the selection process of Robert Parker’s wine ratings on the other hand, the aim of this collaboration is to offer food lovers a unique opportunity to enjoy an exceptional dining experience,” he added.
