The MICHELIN Guide Expands to Taichung

The 2020 edition of the MICHELIN Guide will include Taichung, a city known for its diverse culinary culture.

Since the first arrival of the MICHELIN Guide Taipei in Taiwan two years ago, the gastronomic bible has caught the attention of Taiwan’s restaurant industry and attracted many food lovers from all around the world to discover a taste of Taipei. Now, Michelin has announced that the MICHELIN Guide will step out of Taipei for the first time: its upcoming 2020 edition of the MICHELIN Guide will include Taichung, a city known for its diverse culinary culture.

The very first MICHELIN Guide Taipei And Taichung will introduce to the public the combined charm of both cities. “During the past two years, the MICHELIN Guide has discovered that there are many cities with gourmet potential in Taiwan aside from Taipei," says Nicolas Achard, managing director of MICHELIN Food & Beverage Asia. "With the bigger scope of the 2020 MICHELIN Guide and Selections, we look forward to showing the world the beauty of Taiwanese food.”

Spotlight on Taiwan Chefs and Ingredients


The first edition of the MICHELIN Guide was launched in Taipei in 2018, putting the city on par with global dining capitals such as New York, London and Tokyo. The restaurants and chefs that were featured in the Guide and those who successfully obtained MICHELIN stars have increased their status and reputation immeasurably.

As a platform to showcase Taiwan's gastronomic scene to the world, the MICHELIN Guide Taipei has helped to promote both Taiwanese chefs and the abundance of local produce on the island, drawing gourmands from around the world to experience island's local culinary culture.

Taichung's Diverse Culinary Culture


Taichung is Taiwan's second-largest city, located in the heart of Taiwan’s transportation hub. The creativity of Taichung’s food and drink offerings are often described as the most inspiring in Taiwan. The city's iconic Fengjia Night Market has approximately 1,800 food stalls and shops which offer local specialty dishes that are very popular among both Taiwanese and foreigners. Restaurants across the city offer all varieties of Taiwanese food and an incredible diversity of cuisines that reflect influences from all around the world.
