MICHELIN Guide Singapore 2018: A Look Back On A Night Of Stars And Nostalgia

We look back at the third edition of the MICHELIN Guide Singapore gala, in which 39 restaurants were lauded with stars.

One of the biggest nights in Singapore’s dining calendar was rolled out with much pomp and splendour as 39 restaurants were anointed with stars at the MICHELIN Guide Singapore 2018 Gala on 25 July.

More than 380 guests, from corporate head honchos to the who’s who of the local dining scene, attended the the third edition of gala ceremony at Resorts World Sentosa. In the audience were Alexandre Taisne, CEO of Michelin Travel Partner and Chan Hock Sen, Vice President of Michelin Asia Pacific.

A flurry of buzz and excitement ensued when Michael Ellis, International Director of the Michelin Guides, went onstage to announce the highly-anticipated results. Chefs and restaurateurs waited with bated breath as the names of the starred restaurants were read out, followed by euphoric eruptions of applause and congratulatory hugs.

This year, a total of 44 stars were awarded to 39 restaurants, of which five are first-timers. Besides dishing out the culinary accolades, the gala, which took on a nostalgic theme of “The Past Through Tomorrow”, also paid tribute to four pioneering restaurants in Singapore — Dragon Phoenix Restaurant, Guan Hoe Soon Restaurant, Roland Restaurant and Loy Kee Chicken Rice.
