7 Michelin-Listed Halal Eateries In Singapore To Try

Our guide on where to get good and tasty Muslim food.

Dining might be about good food, but it's also about respecting the produce used to create flavour and textures in what we eat.

To a large extent, a halal-certified restaurant or stall achieves this as they place great emphasis on the way in which an animal's life ends. Here, we flip through the prestigious red guide to bring you seven Michelin-listed halal eateries to try.

Nasi Lemak Kukus
Formerly located at Upper Thomson Road, this steamed nasi lemak restaurant has found a new home along Selegie road. The store still dishes out free-flow servings of coconut rice with fried chicken wings, ikan kuning, eggs, crunchy ikan billis and unlimited sambal. 229 Selegie Road

Traditional Haig Road Putu Piring
Putu piring (also known as kueh tutu) is a traditional handmade steamed rice cake of the Malay community in Southeast Asia. It is usually made with rice flour, melted brown sugar and served with grated coconut. At this shop, the rice flour is repeatedly sieved, steamed and dried over two days to achieve a fine texture. The sweet snack is made fresh on the spot upon order. 14 Haig Road

Tambuah Mas (Tanglin)

Founded in 1981, Tambuah Mas specialises in Indonesian home-style cuisine from Padang, Sulawesi, and Java. The look has remained largely unchanged over the years but no one is here for the décor – they come for dishes like sop buntut (spicy oxtail soup), rendang lembu (braised beef) and nasi goreng istimewa (fried rice with prawns, chicken satay and fried egg). The menu is not extensive, but the dishes are full of flavour and nicely balanced. 19 Tanglin Road, #04-10/13, Tanglin Shopping Centre
Bismillah Biryani
A good biryani is all about the basmati rice, and the owner of Bismillah Biryani takes care to cook the long grains together with the meats over a charcoal fire so all the flavours come together in one pot. The mutton at this Bib Gourmand awarded eatery is also very good. 50 Dunlop Street

Morning breakfasts are an indulgent treat at this humble stall with over 18 kinds of cooked-to-order crispy roti prata, Indian rojak and murtabak. The naans here are made fresh daily, and they serve incredibly fragrant biryani rice. #01-10 ABC Brickworks Food Centre.

Pondok Makan Indonesia
This stall in Albert Centre Market & Food Centre offers six kinds of dishes, from mee rebus to lontong. The cooked-to-order mutton satay is worth a try. 270 Queen Street

Allauddin's Briyani
This famous biryani comes with a choice of chicken, mutton and fish. The rice here is fluffy and flavourful, packed with flavour from the spices that coat the tender chicken here. 665 Buffalo Road.
