5 Michelin-recommended Hotels For A Family Staycation

The school holidays are upon us. Here’s where to go for a family retreat without leaving the island.

There is more to the MICHELIN Guide than its coveted stars. Other than its restaurant selection, the red guide also has a hotel reference section for the cities that the guide is in. In Singapore, these cover the gamut from luxury hotels in the heart of Orchard Road to tranquil retreats on Sentosa. Here are five hotels recommended in the MICHELIN Guide Singapore 2018 that offer a family-friendly getaway.
Equarius
What The MICHELIN Guide Says: “The most exciting bedrooms at this hotel — which is close to all the main attractions of Sentosa Island — are the 11 ocean suites: they offer spectacular views of Marine Life Park and make you feel you're living under the sea. The deluxe rooms are more soberly decorated but are spacious and well-equipped. If you want a tropical forest experience, book a beach villa.”

Resorts World Sentosa, of which Equarius is a part of, is running an online exclusive promotion for a multi-attractions package that includes a two-night stay in a RWS hotel, tickets to four attractions (Universal Studios Singapore, S.E.A. Aquarium and more) and S$100 spa credit for ESPA, which is located at Equarius hotel. Children from three years old can participate in a host of programmes and activities at the Kids Club at the adjacent Hard Rock Hotel.

Hotel Fort Canning
What The MICHELIN Guide Says: “The city may be on the doorstep but it’ll feel miles away when you’re on the shady patio of this rather grand building, which was built in 1926 for the British army — little wonder it’s a popular wedding venue too. A more contemporary building houses the bedrooms; ask for a bathroom with natural light. The Tisettanta Lounge is the place for a good cocktail.”

Make your staycation at Hotel Fort Canning an educational one for the kids by taking them on a heritage walk through the historical Fort Canning Park right at its doorstep or visit the National Museum of Singapore or the Singapore Art Museum nearby. If you’re staying over a weekend, the hotel sets up a play area with slides and toys at its all-day-dining restaurant The Salon every Sunday from 7am to 3pm so the kids are thoroughly entertained while grown-ups can indulge in a leisurely brunch.

Four Seasons
What The MICHELIN Guide Says: “There aren't many city hotels with tennis courts — the very exclusive Four Seasons hotel has four, two of which are indoor. It also has two swimming pools, one of which offers sweeping views of the city skyline. The newly renovated bedrooms are spacious and come equipped with every extra and amenity you’ll ever need and the large marble bathrooms are particularly luxurious.”

This luxury hotel just off Orchard Road offers a thoughtful list of child-friendly amenities and services including bathroom stools for kids, kid-sized bathrobes and slippers; floating toys, games, a kids’ menu at the 20th floor pool, and complimentary DVDs and video games. Children under five dine free at One-Ninety Restaurant’s Sunday Brunch buffet and can have lots of fun at the supervised Kids’ Playland.

Jen Orchardgateway
What The MICHELIN Guide Says: “Opened in 2014 in the heart of Orchard Road, this hotel is directly connected to three different shopping malls as well as Somerset MRT station. There’s cutting-edge technology throughout the hotel and bedrooms are bright, modern and functional. As their name suggests, the Panorama Club rooms have the best views. There are also three terrific rooftop pools.”

This hotel is an oasis in the city that’s an ideal getaway for the whole family. Room options for families include a spacious Deluxe Family Room and adjoining rooms at 50% discount for the second room. Free bicycles are provided for guests who want to explore Orchard Road in a different way, while the rooftop infinity pool, Jacuzzi and children’s lap pool overlook panoramic views of the Singapore skyline.

W Sentosa Cove
What The MICHELIN Guide Says: “Those familiar with the brand will recognise many of the elements of this W hotel, which is located on the east side of Sentosa Island. There’s the moodily lit bedrooms with names like Wonderful, Spectacular and Fabulous; there’s the lounge music that gives the hotel and its lobby such energy; and a young client base who are more interested in partying than peacefulness.”

Don’t let W’s hip young vibe scare you away, the buzzy energy is great for families as well. A highlight for the kids will surely be the expansive pool with floating beanbags and a wading pool for younger children. Adjacent to the hotel is Quayside Isle, a lovely boardwalk overlooking the yachts on the marina with a plethora of family-friendly cafes, restaurants and a supermarket. The hotel also has Universal Studios packages as well as staycation packages with 50% off the second night and daily activities for the little ones.
