Dating back to 1484, this place has a palpable sense of history. It is the city's last surviving guild house and is brimming with charm, not least due to the wood-panelled interiors. One quirk of the Zunftstube (guild room) is its sloping floor – you might find yourself sitting at a bit of a tilt! The kitchen follows a classic approach, emphasising regional and seasonal fare. Be sure to sample the hand-cut beef tartare, available mild, medium or hot to suit your taste. Or perhaps the St Gallen veal sausage with red wine onion sauce is more your thing. Service is attentive and genuinely warm.
