But at the Salamander DC, which feels a little away from it all thanks to its tucked-away location just south of the National Mall, there’s a wide, grassy lawn perfect for families eager to enjoy some downtime somewhere other than their hotel room. As for the rooms, the Salamander has some of the most spacious in the city, which is ideal for families with kids in tow. Kids and their parents will get a kick out of the hotel’s private walkway to the iconic Tidal Basin, as well as enjoy a dip in the family-friendly indoor pool after a long day of exploring.

The Viceroy feels as much of a local haunt as it does a choice place for travelers interested in staying in a part of the city where people actually live and hang out. The hotel is an easy spot to base a full family thanks to some essential perks like an all-day restaurant, Dovetail, and a rooftop pool (the views and cocktails are great up there, too). The hotel specifically caters to visiting families with borrowable guitars and ukuleles, a kid-friendly Polaroid camera photography kit for exploring the city, and paint-by-number sets for relaxing.
