The results for the MICHELIN guide Hong Kong and Macau 2018 has just been released, with eight new entrants in the one star category and all previous three-starred establishments maintaining their stars.
The full list for this year includes a total of 227 restaurants in Hong Kong, and 65 restaurants in Macau. Since the inception of the esteemed red guide in 2008, the number of restaurants in the guide have tripled, as the Hong Kong dining scene continues to evolve. From local Cantonese dining to upscale fine-dining restaurants, Hong Kong has cemented its status as a buzzing, dynamic gastronomic city in Southeast Asia.
Says Michael Ellis, International Director in charge of the MICHELIN Guides: "Ten years after the introduction of the very first MICHELIN guide selection for Hong Kong Macau, we are pleased to note the vibrancy of the local culinary scene; the number of starred restaurants has been multiplied by three!”
There are also a total of 11 two-starred establishments in Hong Kong, and five in Macau this year.
Crispy Scallops with Fresh Pear, Shrimp Paste and Yunnan Ham from Lung King Heen, which maintains its three Michelin-starred status this year.
Among the eight new one-starred restaurants this year are Arcane, an open-kitchen concept led by Australian chef Shane Osborn; Kaiseki Den by Saotome, which relocated and renamed itself earlier this year; Imperial Treasure, the first Hong Kong branch from Singapore serving refined Chinese cuisine; Cantonese restaurants with a contemporary twist, Ying Jee Club and Yee Tung Heen; The Ocean, a seafood restaurant helmed by French chef Olivier Bellin; Rech, Alain Ducasse's first international outpost of his Parisian seafood restaurant; and Tate by female chef-owner Vicky Lau, which just recently moved to a larger space on Hollywood Road this year.
