Travel down a charming alleyway in search of a blue door, as it’s the only sign you’ve arrived (the line, which begins forming at 4:30 P.M., is another hint). Once inside you’ll feel you’ve been spirited away to a bedouin’s haven. Maydān's soul is the first-floor's open-fire hearth, where pit masters choreograph a dizzying ballet of meat-centric activity. This menu is a love letter to the culinary traditions of Beirut, Batumi, Tangier and Tehran and includes smoky halloumi, fire-roasted eggplant and Beiruti hummus. While some savor the bitter tenderness of dandelion greens, others revel in the sweet deliciousness from saffron-spiced beef skewers or lamb kebabs with ground pistachios. Of course, that slow-cooked duck breast is positively drool-worthy.
