Capitol Hill & Navy Yard ·
Despite its prime Capitol Hill location, there’s nothing buttoned up about Rose’s Luxury. This local fave's food and mood practically sings of funkier digs. Tucked inside a row house, the cozy-yet-contemporary space is industrial-chic to a tee with bare plywood banquettes, concrete accents, and strings of lights. The youthful-cum-playful atmosphere is bolstered by a hipster-heavy crowd, who queue up early or outsource a placeholder in line for this no-reservations spot. Innovative yet approachable, the food bobs and weaves with absolute precision. Its melting pot of flavors is dizzying at times, and every dish is far from forgettable. Choose from cool or warm small plates: charred carrots tempered by tart house-made yogurt with harissa for extra pizzazz; crispy, complex jerk spice-marinated fried pig's ears; or an intensely elaborate salad of pork sausage, habanero, peanuts, and lychee. Pasta is turned on its head with unorthodox blends like a tomato-rich penne alla vodka pepped up with Thai basil. And while several family-style dishes are also on offer, the small plates are far more intriguing. To end the meal on a sweet note, dig in to the befuddling-yet delicious-Fernet and cola tiramisu.
