De Leuf is a really appealing family business run by hostess Sandra van de Bunt, her daughter Michelle and son Robin, who is in charge in the kitchen. He is a creative chef inspired by his travels around Asia and the classic finesse imparted by his late father, Paul.
As soon as you enter, the chefs at the counter where diners are seated prepare some appetisers for you. The Asian-style intensity of a combination like North Sea crab, sea urchin and Japanese mandarin makes it immediately clear what to expect here. Local produce and Asian flavours elevate each other. Monkfish marinated in algae, for example, is bolstered by a veal jus vinaigrette and an emulsion of soy sauce and beurre blanc. This cuisine is technically accomplished, sophisticated and inspired.
De Leuf's revamped decor combines regional materials with a Japanese zen feel. This half-timbered farmhouse (1769) is a paragon of contemporary class and character. A visit to De Leuf is a must to fully immerse yourself in the world created by the Van de Bunt family.
