MICHELIN Guide Inspectors spend all year on the road uncovering the best restaurants to recommend and reveal some of their latest favourite additions monthly ahead of the annual launch event.
Restaurants in Bangkok, Ayutthaya, Chiang Mai, Phuket and Phang-Nga will be added to the selection monthly, on the second Wednesday of every month. The newly selected venues will feature on both the website and the application. There’s a special entry “New” created for those newly-listed restaurants and those restaurants will be highlighted with a ‘New’ symbol, for easy identification. Why not give them a try and see which ones you would add to your shortlist?
Here are 4 of the MICHELIN inspectors' favourite new additions for July 2022 in Thailand!
Potong, Bangkok
Traditional and novel converge at this Thai-Chinese fine dining restaurant from chef Pichaya “Pam” Utharntharm. Set in a historical Sino-Portuguese building that used to be Pam's family’s Chinese pharmacy, Potong blends rustic and modern decor from ground floor bar to rooftop chill space. Her progressive 20-course set menu is infused with storytelling and hits its peak with aged duck breast. To make it even better, ask the sommelier for a wine pairing.
Wana Yook, Bangkok
Inside a charming 100-year-old colonial house, Chef Chalee Kader creates an innovative seasonal tasting menu inspired by ‘Kao Gaeng’ or ‘rice topped with curry,’ and here, every course features rice from a different region of Thailand. The chef’s flavoursome contemporary dishes are served in the beautiful dining room, elegantly outfitted with wood furniture and silk cushions. To complete the experience, enjoy after-dinner drinks at the cosy ground-floor bar.
Gu Cherng, Ayutthaya
Gu cherng refers to the country’s former capital and the dining room, renovated in 2021, mixes elegant modern Chinese style with flashes of the traditional. Popular dishes include a variety of tasty dim-sum. The steamed prawn dumplings with seaweed and steamed rice noodles stuffed with deep-fried prawns use quality ingredients with delicately balanced flavours. The signature Peking duck pancakes use choice cuts of meat, thinly sliced, crispy and with no fat.
L'Arôme by the Sea, Phuket
Chef Yannick Hollenstein, the skilled Swiss chef, intelligently selects the choicest ingredients for the French set menus – seasonal and vegetarian – and à la carte dishes with a great range of cheese and wines. Start with rooftop drinks and sunset feels before heading downstairs to the nautical-themed restaurant with its views of Kalim beach. The four ways Phuket lobster is a real treat with lobster meat, tail, a poached top and creamy lobster bisque.
