All About Noods and Old Kingdom Vibes

Start your day early with a bowl of noodles for breakfast. Ayutthaya is famous for this quick yet hearty dish, and it’s no surprise that many establishments are featured in the MICHELIN Guide Thailand 2025. Pa Lek Boat Noodles (Bib Gourmand) has been serving its punchy boat noodles for five decades. Nai Liak Beef Noodles (Recommended) offers flavorful beef noodles at reasonable prices, while Pa Porn Traditional Pork Noodles (Recommended) specializes in tom yam noodles. Over at Uan Ja Noodle (Recommended), the beef balls are homemade and full of flavor.

Pranom Shredded Chicken Noodles (Tha Wasukri) (Bib Gourmand) is known for noodles so flavorful they need no extra seasoning. Pratunam Baan Ko Noodles (Recommended) stands out for its intensely rich broth.

Once your stomach is full, it’s time to explore Ayutthaya Historical Park. Wander among the ancient ruins of Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon, Wat Chaiwatthanaram, Wat Phra Si Sanphet and other landmarks that reflect how Ayutthaya flourished over more than 400 years. The site’s cultural importance is so great that UNESCO has recognized it as a World Heritage site.

Feast on Flavors Fresh from the Water

When you’re in Ayutthaya, don’t miss the delicious river delicacies — especially the famous river prawns. They’ve become so popular that some local stalls now source farmed prawns from nearby countries to meet demand, something to keep in mind.

What makes Ayutthaya’s prawns extraordinary is the region’s unique geography. Three major rivers — the Pa Sak, Lopburi and Chao Phraya — converge around the province, with thousands of canals coursing through the city. It’s no surprise, then, that freshwater prawns and fish were once found in great abundance.

River-inspired grilled prawns and fish can be enjoyed at several MICHELIN-recognized restaurants. Ruan Thai Kung Pao and Baan Ta Ko Rai have earned the Bib Gourmand distinction, meaning they serve delicious dishes at reasonable prices. Other recommended spots include O, Grand Chaopraya, Tonnam Riverview, Baan Mai Rim Nahm, and Phae Krung Kao.

Embrace the World of Gentle Giants

Elephants have been Thailand’s national animal since the Ayutthaya Kingdom, which explains the many elephant camps found across the province. Here, you can learn about and befriend these majestic giants while enjoying activities that showcase their incredible talents. Try the local belief that walking under an elephant’s belly brings good fortune.

Feel the serenity of the Chao Phraya River on a leisurely boat ride. Along the way, take in views of timeless architecture, lush farms and charming old houses on both banks. Capture memorable photos as the cool breeze rustles by.

Several tour operators offer scenic river rides, but for something extra special, combine the experience with fine dining. The MICHELIN-Recommended Suriyan Chandra offers river tour packages — or you can dine at its main building, beautifully renovated from a 130-year-old mill. Be sure to book in advance for a truly fulfilling journey.
