L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon

If mum has a taste for the finer things in life then she’ll undoubtedly enjoy being wined and dined at L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon. Contemporary French cuisine is met with an extensive 145-page wine list focusing on the regions of Bordeaux, Burgundy, California, Italy and Germany. Whether you’re looking to order by the class (there are 28 wine labels to choose from) or in the mood for rare vintages like the Château Margaux 1928, Pétrus 1947, the first vintage of Screaming Eagle 1992 and Vega Sicilia Unico 1962, there’s something for every preference. The best seat is at the counter where you can watch the chefs in action, but for more privacy ask for a table in Le Jardin.

Bâtard

The low-key, well-spaced bistro in Sai Ying Pun, is an excellent place to take mum if she wants to keep it casual. The food itself is elevated yet comforting, with standouts including the signature roast three-yellow chicken with rice pilaf and monfish en croute. But no visit to Bâtard is complete without exploring their impressive, Burgundy-focused wine list, which covers world-class labels such as DRC, Leroy, Henri Jayer, Lafites, Latours and Margaux, as well as rare gems from small growers—all at retail price.
