On September 12, 2024, the MICHELIN Guide revealed the brand new One, Two, and Three Key distinctions for the most outstanding hotels in the United States.
This announcement comes four years into a comprehensive refresh of our hotel selection. The MICHELIN Guide now includes over 5,000 hotels across the world, and not a single one is simply a room for the night. These are places that significantly add to your experience as a traveler, each vetted and judged excellent in five categories: architecture and interior design, quality and consistency of service, overall personality and character, value for the price, and a significant contribution to the guest experience in a particular setting.
Which brings us back to the Keys. The culmination of countless hours of evaluation by our Inspectors, the Key hotels below represent the highlights of our broader selection. Like the MICHELIN Stars for restaurants, the MICHELIN Keys are our most outstanding hotels.

The Candler Hotel Atlanta
Distinction: One KeyLocation: Atlanta, Georgia
This historic 1906 Beaux Arts skyscraper was built by Asa Griggs Candler, the Coca-Cola Company founder who would go on to serve as Atlanta’s mayor. A little over a century later, it’s been restored to something like its former glory, and opened to the public as The Candler Hotel Atlanta, Curio Collection by Hilton. Its public spaces are proudly historical in style, while its rooms and suites are a contemporary tribute, and include subtle Southern details and luxury-hotel comforts; the restaurant, By George, marries the two tendencies, its dining room decked out in modernist-inspired furniture alongside imposing marble columns.

Hotel Clermont
Distinction: One KeyLocation: Atlanta, Georgia
Not all that long ago, Atlanta’s Clermont Hotel was famous for two things: the landmark sign on its rooftop radio tower, and the Clermont Lounge, a legendary slice of nightlife in the basement. Both still exist, and the hotel has been thoroughly renovated as a sparkling clean 94-room boutique hotel with 1920s character. The look is retro-influenced but not old-fashioned, with Art Deco and mid-century modernist influences. Up above, the rooftop bar with far-ranging views and a colorful crowd of locals and guests.
Inside the hotel, at MICHELIN-Recommended Tiny Lou’s, French classics mingle with American comfort food on a menu that showcases Georgian ingredients and Southern style. The cooking is approachable and earnest, as in wild striped bass with skin that's been crisped to perfection. Served with asparagus, it's the kind of plate where every component is well-executed. Desserts are a must, with varied takes of the crépe cake and blondie always on the menu, and others always changing. If that means you need to order a few, then so be it.

Stonehurst Place Atlanta
Distinction: One KeyLocation: Atlanta, Georgia
With a gorgeous setting in a 19th-century mansion in Midtown, a charming urban neighborhood, Stonehurst Place gets off very much on the right foot. And though the recently renovated house is impeccably preserved, a careful look will reveal that it’s kept pace with the times. Not only are the amenities up to date — especially the oversized bathrooms and the high-end electronics — but a fair bit of the furnishing is modern as well, if subtly so.
The six rooms and suites are spacious and airy, with restored period woodwork and well-chosen furnishings. Though the service and amenities are first-rate the appeal of Stonehurst Place comes down to atmosphere — this is an elegant and romantic side of Atlanta that’s hard to come by in the newer outlying areas. The pity, as far as Atlanta’s hospitality scene is concerned, is that there’s only one of this place.
The Ritz-Carlton Reynolds, Lake Oconee
Distinction: One KeyLocation: Greensboro, Georgia
A little over an hour to the east of Atlanta, The Ritz-Carlton Reynolds, Lake Oconee is hidden away on its own little peninsula, surrounded by miles and miles of winding lakeshore. Aesthetically, it’s something unusual for the brand, in a throwback Craftsman style that’s perfectly suited to its environment. The rooms and suites are joined by lakeside cottages for larger traveling parties, and all the Ritz-Carlton signatures are here, from the expansive spa to the multiple upscale dining and drinking venues; guests also have access to a nearby tennis club and no fewer than five championship golf courses.
