Villeroy
8th Arr. (Champs-Élysées/Madeleine)Normally the palace hotels are held up as the standard for Parisian hospitality, but a hotel that’s as luxurious as any of them, while containing a mere eleven rooms and suites, is operating on a whole different level. Any one of the suites is of virtually presidential status, and the rooms, while measurably smaller, lack for nothing in terms of comfort – at all levels you’ll find stunning marble baths, custom-made furniture and handmade mattresses.
Cour des Vosges
3rd Arr. (Le Marais)The Place des Vosges, in the Marais, is one of Paris’s most unique places, and Cour des Vosges stands proudly over this picturesque square. But while Cour des Vosges may be a big deal, it’s a small hotel, comprising just 12 rooms and suites. The style is a blend of 17th century opulence and 1970s modernism, and it’s a memorable mixture, one that feels both surprising and somehow inevitable.
Thoumieux
7th Arr. (Tour Eiffel/Musée D'Orsay)On a scenic Parisian street facing the Eiffel Tower, in an intimate little 15 room boutique bearing the inimitable stamp of hotelier Thierry Costes and designer India Mahdavi, there’s precious little to find fault with. The décor is rooted in historical Parisian design with a light, witty touch, while the hospitality offers the personal connection that only the smallest hotels can provide.
Marquis Faubourg St-Honoré
8th Arr. (Champs-Élysées/Madeleine)Paris is full of design statements of all shapes and sizes – but few, it must be said, feel quite as tailor-made, quite so subtly adapted to their historical surroundings, as the Marquis Faubourg Saint-Honoré. This 15 room boutique makes its home in an 18th century courtyard townhouse, with a design best described as a stunningly luxe, historically aware yet stylishly contemporary mansion-hotel.
Les Jardins du Faubourg
8th Arr. (Champs-Élysées/Madeleine)Les Jardins du Faubourg styles itself a five-star boutique hotel, and while you know we’re not great believers in star ratings for hotels, the point is clear enough: small scale (16 rooms), big comforts and the kind of impeccable style you would expect from a top-flight Parisian boutique hotel.
Le Petit Moulin
3rd Arr. (Le Marais)Hidden behind the century-old façade are 17 vibrant and contemporary rooms designed from top to bottom by the fashion designer Christian Lacroix, an environment that is remarkable for the fact that it’s equally opposed both to the 19th century antique look on display in most Parisian hotels and to the minimalist style that’s the default option for modern boutique hotels the world over.
Résidence Nell
9th Arr. (Opéra Garnier/Pigalle)Résidence Nell, in the 9th arrondissement, means the 'résidence' bit quite literally: its 17 apartments come with functional kitchenettes and, even in the studios, enough space for a bit of proper relaxation. They also come with quietly chic contemporary interiors by Patrick Jouin, a man who knows his way around a Parisian residential vibe.
