MICHELIN Guide Beijing 2020 Bib Gourmand Selection

The Bib Gourmand selection for the inaugural MICHELIN Guide Beijing has been released. The 15 establishments on the list offer more than 10 different types of cuisine, including local Beijing favourites such as boiled lamb tripe and Peking duck.

Michelin has just announced the Bib Gourmand selection of the MICHELIN Guide Beijing 2020, ahead of the launch of the city's first edition of the guide slated on 28 November. A total of 15 establishments have been selected.

The Bib Gourmand distinction was established in 1997 with the aim of allowing consumers to enjoy good food on the move. The restaurants on the list are usually not fancy but offer great value for money, making it a popular distinction among readers. In China, the distinction recognises restaurants that feature high quality dishes for less than RMB200 for a full meal.

The Bib Gourmand selection of the inaugural MICHELIN Guide Beijing covers at least 10 cuisine types, including local Beijing delicacies such as beancurd, bao du or boiled lamb tripe, Mongolian hot pot and roasted Peking duck. Yin San Dou Zhi is a popular Beijing breakfast spot, known for its rich soya bean milk, crispy fried dough rings and shao bing (flatbreads). At Bao Du Feng Jin Sheng Long, one can enjoy boiled lamb tripe 13 different ways as well as Mongolian hot pot in a steaming copper pot. Fang Zhuang Chang No.69 Zha Jiang Mian serves only one thing on its menu: springy al dente noodles with a mellow, savoury-sweet sauce made from soybean paste that keeps customers coming back for more. 

Huaiyang, Lu, Hubei and other regional Chinese cuisines are widespread in Beijing, alongside global cuisines such as Thai cuisine. The simply furnished Jing Yi offers home-style Hubei cooking and seasonal fresh river produce, while the colourful Keaami creates a dreamy tropical ambience for its Southeast Asian cuisine. In addition, vegetarian establishments have long held a special place on Beijing's gastronomic landscape and excellent restaurants are not uncommon, including Tian Chu Miao Xiang Vegetarian (Chaoyang) which has made it into the Bib Gourmand selection this year.

The full selection of the MICHELIN Guide Beijing 2020 will be officially announced on 28 November 2019 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beijing.
