MICHELIN Guide Hong Kong Macau 2022 Bib Gourmand Selection Unveiled With 7 New Additions

64 Bib Gourmand venues spanning local eateries, and street food establishments are listed in the MICHELIN Guide Hong Kong Macau 2021, 7 of which are new entrants.

Michelin is pleased to announce the Bib Gourmand selection of the MICHELIN Guide Hong Kong Macau 2022, ahead of the release of the full selection on January 19. This year’s selection highlights 64 eateries in Hong Kong, including 7 new additions, as well as 7 establishments in Macau.

The Bib Gourmand distinction is awarded to venues that offer high-quality food at budget-friendly prices. This means that diners can enjoy a high-quality three-course meal (excluding drinks) for a maximum price of HK$400 in Hong Kong and MOP$400 in Macau.

“Our inspectors are delighted to unveil their best value-for-money addresses, which we hope will cater to foodies seeking to indulge in the pleasure of affordable gourmet experiences. Our latest selection of Bib Gourmand restaurants celebrates almost 70 eateries spanning more than 20 different styles of cuisine that are reflective of the diversity and deep culinary traditions of Hong Kong and Macau. An illustration of local customs and food culture, not only restaurants but also street food eateries have been highlighted by our inspectors, demonstrating quality food is everywhere in Hong Kong and Macau,” commented Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guides.

7 new and promoted venues in Hong Kong

A total of 64 addresses in Hong Kong received the Bib Gourmand distinction this year, among which 7 are new or newly promoted to the list in the 2022 edition.

Three of the newly recognised venues are restaurants that celebrate traditional Cantonese and Chiu Chow flavours, honed through generations of culinary know-how.

They include Chan Kan Kee Chiu Chow, a 70-year-old household name that wins over countless connoisseurs with their velvety, flavourful marinated goose. Over in Tai Wai Dining Room, experienced kitchen team shows respect to Cantonese traditions, but with a subtle sense of cheeky humour.

Meanwhile, Cantonese roast meats specialist Tin Hung ships in geese from Foshan daily to prepare its signature roast goose, which are marinated, roasted to perfection, and served piping hot.

Street food takes the spotlight

An additional 4 venues on this year’s new Bib Gourmand venues offer iconic comfort food typically offered by street vendors.

Both Street serve gua bao sandwiches that loyal regulars return for, available in both the well-loved traditional version as well as a variety of flavours. The Taiwanese owner and chef of Ding Ba Street Food serve authentic street snacks including oyster omelette, pancake rolls, and braised minced pork rice.

Moon Tong Lok makes their signature cifan sticky rice rolls à la minute to ensure freshness, while their hot and sour soup and savoury soy milk are also crowd pleasers. The much-loved Kung Wo Beancurd Factory makes its own tofu with a deep, rich soy aroma, along with other soy products like soy milk, tofu puffs, and golden fish tofu.

In Macau, the Bib Gourmand selection for 2022 comprises 7 restaurants, including established and popular names such as Chan Seng Kei, Cheong Kei, Din Tai Fung (COD), IFT Educational Restaurant, Lok Kei Noodles, Lou Kei (Fai Chi Kei) and O Castiço.
