Petrus: Contemporary French
If your dinner companions are after a novel experience, Petrus, a MICHELIN Plate-recognised French restaurant in the Island Shangri-la Hotel, could be your perfect venue as veteran chef Uwe Opocensky has recently joined the restaurant with the aim of modernising the restaurant while maintaining its heritage charm. He will be redesigning new menus using innovative techniques, exclusively sourced organic ingredients and seasonal flavours. The restaurant offers two private rooms for large groups: the Burgundy Room that seats 15, and the Alsace Room that accommodates 40. A custom menu can be accommodated upon request.
Yat Tung Heen: Classic Cantonese
Chinese cuisine is a popular choice to please the elders during festive family feasts. One-MICHELIN-starred Yat Tung Heen checks all the boxes for a convenient entral location, luxurious decoration and its high quality of food. Its menu spans several categories of Cantonese cuisine, from dim sum to seafood and stir-fries.
The culinary team has won multiple prizes in cooking competitions and earned a loyal following for its signature dishes such as the Honey-glazed Barbecue Pork, Braised Sea Prawns with Onion and Rice Vermicelli in Claypot, Tiger Prawn Two Ways, as well as Pan-fried Chicken with Ginger and Mandarin Peel. Interior-wise, besides the modern Chinese ambience, the restaurant's dining tables are widely spaced apart for maximum comfort.
Hugo’s: Traditional European
The history of MICHELIN Plate-recognised Hugo’s dates all the way back to 1969. Initially situated at the old Hyatt hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui, the restaurant took a hiatus after the hotel’s closure but it reopened in 2009 at its current address in the K11 Art Mall, not far from its former location. The restaurant specialises in traditional European fare, as its antique silver cutlery and 1960s dining carts clearly indicate. Armours, spears, shields, antique chandeliers, and the original wooden door preserved from its old location all contribute to the quaint environment.
The restaurant imports ingredients from Europe for its signature dishes, highlights of which include the Dover Sole Meunière, Escargot à la Bourguignonne, Steak Tartare and Steak au Poivre. The main dining area has ample seating but there is also a VIP dining room for more than a dozen people for large groups that prefer privacy.
Coyote: Mexican Passion
Mexican bar-restaurant Coyote in Wan Chai has been in business for years, and still maintains an impressive flow of customers every night. The cowboy-themed interiors and dartboard and kaleidoscopic light fittings keep the mood social and festive. The restaurant is spread across two levels, and the upper floor is able to host a few dozen people.
Drinks are the forte of the joint. Diners can pick between the special cocktails, non-alcoholic concoctions like Mexican mango slush, and all kinds of beer to pair with Mexican dishes such as burritos and guacamole with tortilla chips served in large portions designed for sharing. In the evenings, live musicians playing upbeat tunes to liven up the atmosphere.
Yamm: International Buffet
Buffet restaurant Yamm at The Mira Hong Kong offers a wide swath of cuisines from Japanese to Indian, Southeast Asian to modern European. Popular stations include the seafood bar offering fresh sashimi and oysters prepared on-demand, Boston lobster and plump legs of Alaskan king crab, the charcuterie counter filled with premium cold cuts, an assortment of cheeses and the eye-catching dessert section. The vast dining area is fitted with semi-circular sofas and large tables for ten people. Crystal chandeliers hanging on the high ceiling add a touch of glamour.
