Florence’s hotel scene is as layered as its Renaissance art — grand palazzos, intimate design boutiques, and quiet Tuscan escapes all vie for attention. Choosing a hotel in this storied city is no easy task — there's much to love across every category. But here, we spotlight the crème de la crème: the MICHELIN Key hotels. Much like the MICHELIN Stars for restaurants, the Key is a distinction awarded to the most exceptional hotels in our collection, rated from One to Three Keys for their style, service, and uniqueness.

Below, discover the best of the best in Florence — mesmerizing lodgings officially recognized by our Inspectors as the city’s most outstanding stays.

A Single Three-Key Hotel

Four Seasons Hotel Firenze

Florence, Italy

Il Palagio

Some of the grandest Florentine offerings are set within the walls of historic palazzos: the epitome may be the Four Seasons Hotel Firenze, a palatial oasis and the city's first Three-Key hotel as of the latest 2025 reveal. This magnificent place feels worlds away from the city center, despite being just a 15-minute walk from the Duomo.

Many of the Two-Key hotels of Florence display the same magnificent Renaissance detailing of the Three-Key Four Seasons above. Palazzo Portinari Salviati is covered in exquisite frescoes, with a storied backstory to boot: it was once the 15th-century home of Beatrice Portinari, Dante’s muse, and the first residence of Cosimo I de’ Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany.

Or head just beyond the city center for postcard-worthy, Two-Key Tuscan villas, like the 19th-century estate Villa Cora, or the 13th-century country house, Villa la Massa.

Florence isn't known as the city of geniuses for nothing — and it's in its standout One-Key hotels where travelers find some of the country's most creative projects. Originally a factory until 1880, Riva Lofts is now a green, sleepy retreat on the left bank of the Arno, gently removed from the city's hustle. Velona’s Jungle Luxury Suites brings a maximalist design to the heart of Florence’s historic center, turning a classic, centuries-old home into a bold mix of animal prints and unexpected color.

Meanwhile, the One-Key Brunelleschi Hotel is nestled inside a sixth-century Byzantine tower and medieval church, and doubles as a foodie magnet thanks to its on-site, Two-Star restaurant, Santa Elisabetta
