In the 2018 selection, Coi makes huge headlines for gaining its third star. Executive chef Matthew Kirkley released a completely new tasting menu shortly after Daniel Patterson’s departure on December 31, 2015, and continues to reveal his personal culinary expression.
The MICHELIN Guide San Francisco features seven three-starred restaurants in total, including The French Laundry, Restaurant at Meadowood, Benu, Saison, Manresa and Quince. There are just over 100 restaurants currently holding the three-star distinction globally.
Californios, a fusion restaurant in the Mission under the skillful leadership of chef Val Cantu, has gained a second star. Also new on the two-star list is SingleThread, Kyle and Katina Connaughton's contemporary restaurant and farm in downtown Healdsburg.
Off the list this year is Mourad Lahlou’s one-starred Aziza which “temporarily” closed it’s doors for renovations last year with plans to reopen in a new space—no word yet on where it will be.
