Michelin Inspectors’ Picks: Top Luxurious Hotels in Singapore For a Pampering Staycation or Holiday

These hotels might be pricey, but top dollar equals top quality, as our inspectors show.

The Michelin Guide is best known for awarding stars and highlighting food picks but flip towards the back and you'll see a comprehensive section that focuses solely on hotels. Some 39 properties have been reviewed and included by our inspectors in the inaugural Singapore edition. There’s a host of locations too, from luxurious historic buildings in the central area to boutique hotels in hipster enclaves.

Whether you’re a resident looking for a weekend staycation or a traveler looking for reputable hotel, little else beats a truly luxurious experience. Here are Singapore’s best properties according to the Michelin inspectors.

Raffles Hotel  
It may have changed hands many times over the last decade but Raffles, with its striking colonial architecture, remains an essential part of the Singaporean identity. The gardens may need some TLC and the public areas of shops, restaurants and boutiques are packed with visitors but, once ensconced in the areas reserved for hotel guests, the mood changes and the pace slows.

Mandarin Oriental  
The Mandarin Oriental name is synonymous with luxury accommodation and impeccable service and this ‘branch’ of the international hotel group doesn’t disappoint. Rising up from the fan-shaped courtyard are 21 floors of comfort and sophistication, with breathtaking views of Marina Bay. The colours, silks, linens and carvings all pay tribute to the hotel’s unique setting.

A hotel for the worldly and well-travelled. As soon as you walk through the doors of this classic, well-styled hotel, you find yourself instantly switching to relax mode and your pace slowing. The location is central and great views are a given – what makes this hotel stand out is the quality of the service, the standards of comfort and the attention to detail.

Shangri-la  
There are three different wings to this resort-style hotel: the Tower Wing, which is the oldest wing and whose floor-to-ceiling windows offer views of the city; the Garden Wing, ideal for those wanting to feel close to nature; and the Valley Wing, the most recent and most exclusive wing. The hotel is surrounded by 15 acres of tropical garden.

Regent-Four Seasons  
From its marble bathrooms to its elegant bedrooms blending Asian and Western styles, it’s clear this is a hotel that exudes sophistication and luxury. The location is also good, as its within walking distance of both the Botanic Gardens and the shops of Orchard Road. Another striking feature is Manhattan bar – a very glamorous space inspired by old New York.
