Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland 2017 Will Be Announced Live on Oct 3

This is the first time that Michelin is holding a live ceremony in the UK ever since the 115-year-old dining guide started publishing an edition for the British Isles in 1911.

Circle your calendars, UK-bound diners. The latest stars for the 2017 Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland will be given out at a live presentation ceremony on October 3 this year.

This is the first time that Michelin is holding a live ceremony in the UK ever since the 115-year-old dining guide started publishing an edition for the British Isles in 1911.

Last year's guidebooks were released in bookstores in September and contained 15 new one-starred restaurants, two new two-starred restaurants and no new three-starred restaurants. The Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland now recommends more than 3,300 places to eat and sleep, including restaurants and pubs awarded Michelin stars for the quality of their food.

“We’re very excited about this inaugural event and I’m very much looking forward to celebrating with so many talented people,” wrote Michael Ellis, the International Director of the Michelin Guides on the Michelin UK website.

“The guide has existed for over 100 years and, if anything, it is even more relevant today because it is independent and it is consistent – which is why the Michelin star is seen as a benchmark across the world.”

The announcement will take place at the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) at Savoy Place in London - a venue chosen in homage to Michelin’s historic motoring background - and the invite-only event is expected to attract top level chefs and the most prestigious names within the restaurant industry.

Mr Ellis added: “The IET is home to the Institution of Engineering and Technology, whose members have been at the forefront of innovation for more than a century. We felt that was a great fit with Michelin, which also has a proud history of innovation – in both tyre manufacturing and the food world.”

Earlier in July, the first edition of the Michelin Guide Singapore was revealed at the Michelin’s first awards ceremony-cum-gala dinner at Resorts World Sentosa, along with a fully searchable digital guide and a gourmet lifestyle editorial platform developed and run together with Robert Parker Wine Advocate.
