8 New Bib Gourmands Announced for MICHELIN Guide Kyoto Osaka 2024

The popular belief about the MICHELIN Guide is that it’s all about the stars, but don’t forget about Bib Gourmand too! Bib Gourmand awarded restaurants are adored by their many diners, because these restaurants offer satisfaction beyond what you’d expect for the price. Today, we present a list of eight restaurants that will be joining our Kyoto Osaka Selection.

NOODLE SHOP RENNOSUKE KYOTO

Ramen

Noodles prepared with a blend of Kyoto barleys in a clear soup of seafood dashi. Specially ordered blue Kiyomizu ware rice bowls make a beautiful presentation.

Saketosakana DNA KYOTO

Izakaya

‘DNA’ was appended to the name to evoke the richness of Japanese cuisine and the spirit of Japan as defining features of the restaurant. There’s a reason why the soup using kombu kelp and bonito dashi stock takes pride of place.

sonoba KYOTO

Soba

Two friends from an arts university started sonoba as ‘a soba shop that makes pottery’. Having majored in interior design, the chef was involved in the restaurant’s design and construction.

Muromachi Kaji KYOTO

Izakaya

This kappo izakaya serves a packed house night after night. Combination platters of sashimi are incorporated in kaiseki style. The chef’s ryotei training is on clear display.

ricuperare TAKEUCHI KYOTO

Italian

Wood, charcoal and straw all fuel the cooking flames at this trattoria. Duck and bonito, for example, are cooked with straw for its fragrance.

Oudon Yomogi OSAKA

Udon

This à la carte udon shop is a project of the proprietress of the Japanese restaurant Miyamoto.

Tonkatsu Fujii OSAKA

Tonkatsu

Fried tonkatsu by a former French cuisine chef. Continental touches such as pâtisserie technique applied to batter and sauce made with red wine create a distinctive take on this popular favourite.

Italian
