Knowing the parties involved, you might expect a Mandarin Oriental hotel in Shenzhen, China to be almost preposterously luxurious, and if that’s your instinct, you won’t be led astray. It occupies, as these things so often do, the highest floors of a 79-story skyscraper, this one right in the heart of the Futian business district. The style is stately as ever — handsome and contemporary, but equally palatable to design fans and business-hotel traditionalists. The rooms are ultra-luxe, though tastefully so, as is the 68th-floor spa; the hotel’s eight restaurants and bars include the much-in-demand Bay by Chef Fei.
