The Best New Hotels in New York City

Stylish hotels that are new to the iconic Manhattan skyline.

New York City by The MICHELIN Guide

See the New York City guide

New York is never not a hot destination. Just consider the city’s ongoing hotel boom. The pandemic may have brought the travel industry to a crawl in 2020, but the city's hoteliers never stopped looking ahead. Many of the newly-opened hotels below were planned during those bleak years. Now, five years later, new hotels have popped up across the city, filling any and every niche in what is perhaps the country's most dynamic hotel scene.

Below, you'll find every brand-new hotel in New York City in our selection — from the highest-end wellness oasis in the heart of Manhattan, to the quirkiest Williamsburg newcomer. Keep an eye on this space: we'll continue to add each new build that joins the MICHELIN selection.

The Twenty Two New York

Flatiron

The newest hotel on this list of new hotels, the Twenty Two opened at the end of 2024. With its addition, the hotel scene gains the rare luxury boutique this near to Union Square, making it an attractive choice for business travelers commuting to nearly any area of Manhattan — that is, if they're looking for more than a hint of glamor and social life to return to after hours. A members' club, the feel is of swanky and character-driven design, and locals (and celebrities) gather at Cafe Zaffri for bites under a gorgeous skylight.

The Manner Soho

Soho

New to the city as of fall 2024, the 97-room Manner in Soho is the little sister to achingly hip Standard High Line and Standard East Village. Similarly aimed at the hip, the artsy and the young, guests exploring the energetic Soho neighborhood should make sure to come back to mingle amidst complimentary wine and bites at the early-evening happy hour in the guest-only lounge. Your brightly colored room will have no television, packed instead with books and magazines about art and music. The seafood-leaning in-house eatery, the Otter, is helmed by acclaimed chef Alex Stupak.

The Warren Street Hotel

Tribeca

Hotel aficionados know the Firmdale Group, a collection of hotels designed in the quirky genius of their cofounder, Kit Kemp. In 2024 they opened the Warren Street Hotel, as brightly colored and eccentrically delightful as its forerunners — another self-contained world of welcoming and majestic spaces in one of the world's most celebrated neighborhoods.

The Fifth Avenue Hotel

NoMad

The opening of the Fifth Avenue Hotel in 2023 brought a dazzling new hotel to a Gilded Age-era mansion, where lively maximalism fills eminently comfortable rooms stocked with complimentary minibars and eminently dimmable lights. The romantic touch extends to the MICHELIN-selected in-house restaurant, Cafe Carmellini, set around a huge, verdant tree in the center of the dining room, as well as to the dimly-lit Portrait Bar and two-seat (!) bar Behind the Curtain.

The Virgin Hotel New York

NoMad

In February 2023, the Virgin flicked on its lights for the first time in NoMad. Most guest rooms have great views and all have excellent amenities, but big spenders should consider Sir Richard’s Suite. Named after founder Sir Richard Branson, the 2,850-square-foot,  two-floor accommodation is bedecked with art and memorabilia from Branson’s life. Guests of any room should expect free yoga, barre classes and an adjacent game complex particularly great for families.

Aman New York
Aman New York

Aman New York

Midtown

The Aman name is synonymous with top-line luxury: on 57th Street at 5th Avenue, they finally brought their high-end ethos to the very center of Manhattan with the opening of Aman New York in August 2022. This is unfettered luxury at a price that matches. If you choose the Aman, you're choosing privacy (every hotel space is guests and members only, which includes the three-floor spa) and smooth design in suites that start at 850 square feet. Nothing about this is typical New York, but the location has you at the heart of it all.

Penny Williamsburg

Williamsburg

With the opening of the Penny in Williamsburg in 2023, Brooklyn gained a homey, affordable (by New York standards) hideout in its most iconic neighborhood. This isn’t the kind of Brooklyn hotel you’ll find full of laptop workers throughout the day — there’s no lobby. Instead, there’s a courtyard with a dog run, a projector set-up for outdoor movies in summer, a beloved Mexican restaurant on the roof and kitchenettes in every (admittedly compact) room. Long-stays are typical here: it’s an excellent base from which to pretend you’re a local.

Nine Orchard

Lower East Side

The glamorous Nine Orchard opened in 2022 from the bones of a historic bank building. Today, it is a true gem of design and restoration in an almost painfully hip micro-neighborhood of the Lower East Side called Dime’s Square. The high-end cocktail bar is a must, with an ambiance ever-enhanced by the Grand Central–style ceiling. Read all about the hotel and its neighborhood, here.

The Ned NoMad

The Ned NoMad

NoMad

Housed in a Beaux Arts building from 1903, the Ned is from SoHo House founder Nick Jones — and, as one would expect — the Ned too has ample private spaces for members, many of which are accessible too to guests. The private lounge, for example, holds nearly nightly events, including a weekly comedy night known, like all the great clubs in New York, to welcome the occasional famous drop-in. A quasi-hidden cocktail bar, Little Ned, adds to the private local feeling.

The Hotel Chelsea
The Hotel Chelsea

The Hotel Chelsea

Chelsea

Can you say the Hotel Chelsea is new, when its history dates back to the 19th-century, and its life as a hotel includes famous mid-century stays by Andy Warhol and Bob Dylan? For our purposes, yes. The Hotel Chelsea was sold in 2011, and finally reopened as a newly-glamorous, historically-tinged hotspot in 2022. Little touches evoke the bohemian history, while public spaces like the Lobby Bar imbue the infamous building with plenty of new glory. Read more about the hotel's storied past here.

Arlo Midtown

Midtown

Another relatively affordable addition to the hotel landscape, the Arlo Midtown opened in 2021 — and has stood, ever since, as a welcome escape from its chaotic midtown scene just a few blocks from Times Square. The crux of the Arlo is its high-tech backbone: guests text for their needs, and instead of “do not disturb” signs, they hit a button to activate a red light outside their doors. Locals enjoy the European-style atrium with their laptops, as well as a rooftop, ART Midtown, with cocktails and bites.

Civilian Hotel

Theater District

Just on the edge of Hell’s Kitchen, Civilian embraces its proximity to Broadway in a way we’ve truly never seen. The tie-ins aren’t just thrown-in or hokey, they’re actually impressive: dioramic replicas of Broadway sets and encased memorabilia that includes original props from Hamilton. The careful curation extends to an excellent rooftop and a downstairs bar with the largest collection of vermouth in the United States.

Graduate New York
Graduate New York

Graduate New York

Roosevelt Island

Although all the Graduate hotels position themselves next door to a college campus, consider this one whether you know someone at the local Cornell Tech or not. The Roosevelt Island location is itself a gem of New York City, an island in the East River with stunning views of both Manhattan and Brooklyn. The views improved drastically with the opening of the Graduate in 2021, which includes among its visual joys the aptly-named Panorama Room on the 18th-floor.

Pendry Manhattan West
Pendry Manhattan West

Pendry Manhattan West

Manhattan West

You can feel a certain calm, California cool in the design of this Manhattan outpost of this west coast brand, but the Pendry couldn’t have a more New York location. Set in Midtown, it became a go-to for business travelers as soon as it opened in 2021, and the upscale restaurant, Zou Zou’s, is still a hot spot for a power lunch. Still, the zen design and sultry bar and terrace means you can’t count it out for a couple’s retreat.

Casa Cipriani

Financial District

Anyone who's entered Casa Cipriani since its opening in 2021 has had their perception of the East River forever changed. Huge windows on the water give the tip of southern Manhattan a romance more often associated with Venice. A room at this hotel and members club does not come cheap — but as one of just a handful of Three Key hotels in America, it’s worth a splurge for a stay as trendy, chic and luxe as near any in the world.

Rockaway Beach Hotel

Rockaway Beach

It opened Memorial Day in 2020, and it’s been one of the more obvious summer standouts in the city ever since. Located steps from one of New York’s rare beaches, this gem in Queens is in fact open year-round, with a spa and heated pool available in all seasons. High-end and impeccably designed, it’s the kind of spot locals appreciate as much, if not more, than visitors — who may prefer a hotel closer to the sites in Manhattan. That said, its location, convenient to the major airports, makes for a heck of a layover.
