São Paulo: The Gastronomic Capital Where Different Cuisines Converge

A history of migration to São Paulo—from all regions of Brazil and countries such as Italy and Japan—have transformed the city into a true epicenter of culinary cultures. Here, traditions from across Brazil coexist with dishes that seem as much Paulistano as they are international, such as pizza and sushi.

With a diverse and sophisticated culinary scene, there is no need to leave the metropolitan area to find restaurants that represent the excellence of Brazilian cuisine or establishments that masterfully translate Italian, Japanese, Peruvian, French, or Syrian flavors. From ancestral culinary projects to cutting-edge innovations, the city reaffirms its place as one of the world’s great gastronomic hubs.

"Hosting The MICHELIN Guide Ceremony 2025 is an honor and a recognition of our city's gastronomic diversity. São Paulo boasts an excellent menu with cuisine from different regions, states, and countries. Good food is an attraction for everyone who lives in or visits the city, offering options for all tastes and budgets. This essential sector in job and income generation gains more encouragement from this partnership with The MICHELIN Guide, which will bring even more tourists and growth to the service sector," celebrates the Mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes.

"It is a tremendous pleasure for São Paulo to host the ceremony and celebrate the boundary-pushing creativity of Brazilian cuisine. For tourism, this partnership elevates the city to another level, expanding the reach of the gastronomic scene and further strengthening the city's vocation in this sector," highlights the Municipal Secretary of Tourism, Rui Alves.

The MICHELIN Guide Rio de Janeiro & São Paulo 2025 Selection

As every year, the new selection of restaurants in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo is being compiled independently by an international team of anonymous Inspectors. For nearly 100 years, The MICHELIN Guide has based its evaluations on the same five criteria: the quality of ingredients, harmony of flavors, mastery of culinary techniques, the personality of the cuisine, and consistency over time.

The MICHELIN Guide Rio de Janeiro & São Paulo 2025 launch ceremony will be broadcast live on the official MICHELIN Guide YouTube channel. After the announcement, the new selection will be available on the MICHELIN Guide website and app.
