The MICHELIN Guide Singapore Bib Gourmand 2024 Selection

11 new establishments are awarded a Bib Gourmand recognition in the MICHELIN Guide Singapore 2024, making a total of 81 Bib Gourmand addresses in the Lion City.

In anticipation of the official MICHELIN Stars and full selection announcement on Tuesday, 25 June 2024, the MICHELIN Guide Singapore is pleased to unveil the 2024 Bib Gourmand selection today. The MICHELIN Bib Gourmand highlights inspectors’ favourites, showcasing establishments that offer exceptional value-for-money gourmet experiences.

The list of mouthwatering eats includes the addition of 9 new eateries and 2 establishments moved from Selected to Bib Gourmand status from across Singapore, bringing the total to 81 addresses. This represents an increase from the 2023 selection, which featured 79 food establishments.

The Bib Gourmand distinction, symbolised by the “Bibendum” or “Michelin Man”, recognises both restaurants and street food eateries that Michelin inspectors deem to offer the best value for money within the selection. Bib Gourmand establishments fall within the $ and $$ price ranges, specifically the categories "on a budget" and "a moderate spend."

“When talking about Singapore's cuisine, one cannot overlook the integral role of hawker centres. These are not only a part of everyday life for the common people, but also a microcosm of the Lion City's multi-ethnic society. The eighth edition of Singapore’s Bib Gourmand selection reflects the dynamic and diverse smorgasbord of eateries in the casual and hawker categories, and our inspectors have discovered rich cultural traditions that include Thai, Italian, Indian, and Penang cuisines, in addition to the long-serving heritage hawkers that continue to serve up their much-loved recipes, all at incredible value,” says Gwendal Poullennec, the International Director of the MICHELIN Guide.

“Encouragingly, we are seeing more young people joining the food and beverage industry, with even formally trained chefs willing to join the ranks of hawkers. We are hopeful that Singaporeans are embracing their traditional food culture with an open mindset, allowing it to flourish more in the future.”

Amongst the 11 new entrants, 2 are moved from the MICHELIN Selected category:

Jalan Sultan Prawn Mee has been in operation for over 70 years, serving aromatic dry prawn mee in sambal with heaps of fried scallion, adding depth; while the soup version has a prawn broth loaded with natural umami.

Ru Ji Kitchen has two adjoining stalls that sell either noodles in soup, or dry noodles with minced pork, pork balls, or fish balls that are handmade on the spot. The bouncy textured, deep-flavoured fish balls made with yellowtail are especially popular.

The 9 new Bib Gourmand establishments are varied in cuisine and are geographically spread out across the island:

Chef Kang’s Noodle House, located in Toa Payoh, specialises in noodle soup with wontons and char siu — the springy noodles are shipped from Hong Kong, and the lightly charred pork comes glistening with layers of fat and tender lean meat.

Delhi Lahori’s fluffy, crispy naans have a loyal following at Tekka Centre. The experienced tandoor master knows his clay oven inside out. His grilled-to-order seekh kebab and chicken tikka masala are also exceptional and come in generous portions.

Fico keeps things coastal at East Coast Park, in a white house styled after a masseria in Puglia. The sprawling lawn, spectacular ocean views, and sound of the waves all exude a soothing vibe. The Pugliese chef is keen to bring authentic cuisine from his homeland to Singapore, of which focaccina and pasta made from scratch are the highlights.

Han Kee at Amoy Street Food Centre is famous for its umami-laden broth with mackerel. Enjoy the soup on its own, or as a rich base for porridge or bee hoon, with sliced fish or fish head.

Jason Penang Cuisine offers Penangese quick bites, from char kway teow to prawn mee, alongside its famous Penang assam laksa — the tangy, mildly hot yellowtail fish broth works magic with the noodles; but it’s the fresh mint that makes it so distinctive.

Margaret Drive Sin Kee Chicken Rice
makes its specialty chicken rice the same way it did since it opened along Margaret Drive years ago. The juicy, tender meat is served with an aromatic oil rice and an addictive ground ginger sauce. The gizzards are equally good.

MP Thai (Vision Exchange)
always attracts a crowd with its tasty dishes that come in generous portions at affordable prices. With a Thai owner and an all-Thai kitchen team, be rest assured that the food is as authentic as it can be. The tom yum soup strikes a fine balance between sour, sweet, spicy, and salty tastes; the BBQ squid is also nicely grilled and loaded with umami, perfect with the hot and sour sauce it comes with.

Song Fish Soup
’s menu offers blanched sliced fish, deep-fried fish, and fish maw, either in fish broth or bee hoon soup. The Fish Maw Double Fish Soup lets you sample three items at once. Fish head, clams, and shrimps are also available.

Zhup Zhup
, formerly One Prawn & Co, still sees constant queues forming beneath its red awning. The signature prawn noodles come in a set: a bowl of noodles, plus rich prawn soup in a claypot. Out of the four types of noodles, the classic option is a combination of yellow noodles with thin bee hoon. The tasty soup is loaded with flavours, imparted by the tomalley of countless prawn heads.
