MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

Chef Nate Tauer and owner Phillip Frankland Lee are the main players of this hip and lively operation. An industrial space, donning cement floors, funky lighting, and that much-beloved open kitchen-counter, this tasting menu concept is one for the books.

Offered in a separate area, drinks and a snack kick things off ceremoniously. The staff is wonderfully engaging, as they bestow upon diners a parade of delectable plates. Italian may be the spirit of this cuisine, but products are as hyper local as they come. Your first course may uncover the likes of mushroom duxelles cannolo, starring a brik pastry shell and agrodolce; tailed by potato and sunchoke custard layered with crème fraîche and caviar. The mastery of this team lies in their ability to take full advantage of Cali's natural bounty, with thrilling results, as seen in cavatelli with a glossy, butter-rich lobster sauce, with spring peas and chunks of sweet meat; or an exalted take on the caprese by way of marigold tomatoes, mozzarella, fennel flowers, and avocado.

Desserts, like goat milk-white chocolate mousse with Meyer lemon granita and a sugar-dusted brioche donut, are a send-off that promise nothing less than sweet dreams.
