For 35 years, Marc and Phil Covitz's mother Aviva Covitz ran the Beverly Hills outpost of Swiss chocolatier Teuscher. In 2018, the brothers Covitz took over and the shop became andSons, selling striking chocolates by pastry chef Kriss Harvey. Passionfruit caramel, pop rock praline, and yuzu caramel are among the flavors. Their Mother's Day Box ($69) is a collab with The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens in San Marino, CA. The 24-piece box includes two limited-edition pieces: dark chocolate orange ganache and pecan praline made with oranges from the Huntington's orange grove and jasmine and citrus tea caramel made with the Huntington's signature tea. For delivery by mother's day, order by May 6th (for express shipping) or May 5th (less expensive shipping).

Arcelia Gallardo and Amelia Gonzalez's chocolate shop in Berkeley's Elmwood District makes small-batch chocolates inspired by and filled with Latin American flavors—think guayaba, chipotle caramel, and mole. Chocolates, coconut macaroons, and Mexican wedding cookies can be delivered; come by the store for Mexican hot chocolate and tres leches or chocolate cakes and flan. Uzma Sharif opened her eponymous Pilsen chocolate shop in late 2012. Her influences and ingredients are global: her own South Asian heritage (her grandfather was a pastry chef in Pakistan), her French pastry training, and her use of single-origin chocolate from Mexico, Tanzania, and Ghana. Try dairy-free, dark chocolate bars with coffee and cardamom bar or Kashmiri chili or go for bonbons and truffles like the kala Namak caramel (black salt caramel). For delivery by Mother's Day order by April 22nd (USPS) or May 3rd (UPS) or visit the shop Wed-Sat (and go for a slice of orange flourless chocolate cake).

Michiko Marron-Kibbey's chocolate brand celebrates her Japanese-American heritage (she's fourth generation) and her two years in France attending esteemed culinary school Ferrandi and working at Mori Yoshida, a Franco-Japanese pastry and chocolate shop—a move she made after working as a teacher in DC. Treats come in exciting flavors—think miso and Japanese pepper caramels, dark chocolate umeshu (plum wine) bonbons, and a pistachio rose chocolate bar. Look out for two Mother's Day bars—one vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate ice cream and the other dark chocolate lavender. For delivery by Mother's Day, order by May 3rd.

Psychiatrist-turned-chocolatier Kimberly Yang's chocolate shop takes its name from her Taiwanese heritage—the Portuguese name for Taiwan was Formosa (beautiful)—and it fits: her chocolates are very pretty. Passionfruit, peanut butter, blood orange speculoos, lemon cognac...these bonbons are as richly flavored as they are colored. For delivery by Mother's Day, order by May 3rd. Poole trained at Le Cordon Bleu and has been a firefighter and firehouse cook for the Seattle Fire Department for 30 years, and the color scheme of his enticing chocolates skews fiery—mango habanero caramel in orange-yellow ombre, a white chocolate lemon meringue in marigold, a white chocolate orange zest in bright orange. Today the pair sell chocolates like Turkish figs filled with peanut butter ganache and dipped in 72% dark cacao, pouches of sumptuous liquid dark chocolate, and birthday cake truffles (dark chocolate with a confetti cake center). The French Laundry chef-owner Thomas Keller and olive oil merchant Armando Manni combine single-origin cocoa beans and Manni's organic, extra-virgin olive oil to make their chocolate bars, produced in Napa. In the Mother's Day pack are three bars: dark chocolate peppermint with beans from Ecuador; dark citrus with beans from Ecuador and a blend of orange, yuzu, and lemon; and Ecuadorian milk chocolate. Carol Gancia got her start in chocolate working in food TV before honing her technique in professional chocolate courses. She opened her pale-pink walled Castro chocolate shop in June 2020, bringing much needed sugar-as-comfort to San Franciscans. Its name is the Filipino word for "ribbit"; Gancia is Irish-Filipina and grew up in Manila. The Mothers's Day box has 16 truffles filled with flavors coconut pie, apple pie, coffee, and Earl Grey tea. For delivery by Mother's Day, order by April 25th or pick up in-store or curbside.

After a long career with UNICEF, with postings in Liberia, South Sudan, Kenya and Senegal—where she and two friends ran a beloved pop-up restaurant in Dakar—Selassie Atadika left the UN in 2014, moved back to Ghana, and went into the kitchen. She started with catering and pop-up dinners, but Ghana is the world's second largest producer of cacao, so she started working with chocolate. Midunu Chocolate was born, boasting an all-female team who create truffles filled with flavors from around the continent. Cape Malay curry combines with milk chocolate ganache and dark chocolate; Ethiopian berbere teams with milk chocolate ganache and dark chocolate; and lemongrass- and ginger-infused white chocolate ganache get wrapped in dark chocolate. Try her speckled salted caramel almond bar, caramel-filled bonbons that look like Pollock paintings, and cookies (French sablés) in chocolate hazelnut and espresso.
