It’s not easy to find a quiet beach on Phuket, but count on Anantara Resorts to claim one of the few that remain. Anantara Layan Phuket Resort has a privileged location, to be sure, right on Layan Beach, a section of the northwestern coast that’s relatively secluded, shaded by coconut trees and facing a calm, shallow bay.
A row of waterfront villas are lavishly appointed with private pools, outdoor dining areas, and direct beach access, and those that face away from the sea feel like tropical hideaways with their lush interior gardens and indoor-outdoor showers. Even the simplest room feels palatial with its high vaulted ceilings, terrazzo-tiled tub, and elegant teak paneling, and all feature locally crafted textiles and original artwork by Thai artists.
Elsewhere at the resort, there’s a state-of-the-art spa, a sophisticated Japanese eatery, a beachhouse-style restaurant with a rooftop bar, and an observatory deck for stargazing over cocktails. A large infinity pool stretches out along the length of the mostly empty beach: few day-trippers make it to these white sands, which are unofficially reserved for resort guests.
