Bangkok’s frenetic energy, attractive as it may be, comes with the requirement that its hotels be sanctuaries in and of themselves. Siam Kempinski fits the bill wonderfully, sequestering three spacious pools and a network of tropical gardens in an open-air atrium between its high-rise wings. That effectively doubles the balcony quotient, which in turn gives a welcome freshness to those inward-facing rooms. It’s a subtle oasis effect, amplified with a light touch in their patterned textiles, floral arrangements, and marble-on-marble bathrooms. A personal temple, in other words, to recover between tours of the city’s actual temples — or, just as likely, the Paragon shopping emporium just next door.
