Recap - The MICHELIN Guide Bangkok 2018 Gala & Celebration

The MICHELIN Stars light up Bangkok and the land of smiles.

Last week, the first-ever MICHELIN Guide Bangkok launched at the Siam Kempinski Hotel treating guests with a gastronomic experience that's surely to be remembered.

Attending VIPs and guests feasted on a six-course dinner—complete with wine pairings—from international chefs Chan Yan Tak of three-starred Lung King Heen in Hong Kong, Thierry Marx of two-starred Sur Mesure par Thierry Marx in Paris and Henrik Yde-Anderson of one-starred Kiin Kiin in Copenhagen. Local Thai chefs from the newly crowned one Michelin Star establishments Bee Satongun (Paste), Chayawee (Berm) Sutcharitchan (Sra Bua by Kiin Kiin), Thanintorn ‘Noom’ Chantrawan (Chim by Siam Wisdom) and Yannis J. Janssens (L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon) also provided dishes for the tasting menu.

Attendees were also treated to a performance by the Bangkok City Ballet. The theme was, of course, Reaching for the Stars.

“Getting a Michelin star is something that is unique in the life of a restaurant, a chef and a team,” says Michael Ellis, International Director of the MICHELIN Guides. “It changes their lives, it brings a unique Michelin spotlight onto that restaurant, onto that cuisine, onto the city and the country where that restaurant is.”

“It is a great honor for Bangkok to be chosen as a location of one of the Michelin Guide books,” states Mr. Weerasak Kowsurat, Minister of Tourism and Sports. “I believe that tonight there will be stars lighting up all over Bangkok’s sky. I congratulate the spectacular restaurants and chefs in Bangkok which have been awarded the prestigious Michelin star rating. This will be the beginning of a new dimension of Bangkok’s unique culinary experience and I wish you all success and a very good evening.”
