Housed in a beautifully restored building dating back over 300 years, this restaurant is located right next to the wine estate Weingut Josef Fritz. The interior is elegant and attractive, with minimalist-style decor; outside, the courtyard offers a delightful setting for summer dining. Following stints in a number of top kitchens, chef Marco Gangl presents a set menu that draws heavily on regional produce. It is predominantly plant-led but also features meat and fish. The dishes have real character, eg "broccoli, grape, soft goat's cream cheese, radicchio" or "char, cucumber, beer vinegar, sesame". The kitchen also makes good use of the herb garden in the courtyard. At lunchtime, a slightly shorter version of the set menu is available. With prior notice, both the lunch and evening menus can be made vegetarian or pescetarian. The wine list, featuring around 400 labels, is also worth mentioning, with numerous Austrian regions represented – including a substantial selection from Weingut Fritz. Service is attentive, charming and highly competent, with the chef lending a hand serving the dishes.
