5 Themed Food and Drinks To Cheer On Your Fave World Cup Team

As the World Cup matches intensify, restaurants and bars continue to cash in on the football fever with themed food, set meals and drinks.

As one team comes closer to lifting the World Cup on 15 July, keep your energy — and enthusiasm — up with these themed food and drinks. These range from the very appropriate giant fish balls to — and this takes the cake — an actual dome-shaped cake with a chocolate football in it. Here are some quirky options to get as you cheer on your favourite teams for the remaining matches.

1. TV Dinner

You don’t have to tear yourself away from your TV screens to get supper with Paradise Group’s home delivery set meal. Delivered via Deliveroo, Foodpanda and honestbee, the World Cup set meals come from Paradise Dynasty (set of five dishes including pork dumplings with hot chilli vinaigrette, crispy chicken and stir-fried French beans), Paradise Classic (Yangzhou fried rice, sweet and sour pork, and shrimp-paste chicken) and Canton Paradise (steamed kampong chicken, wok-fried carrot cake and egg fried rice). These set meals come piping hot and are suitable for a small group of people, making it ideal for a cosy World Cup get-together.

These meals are available for delivery until 15 July.

2. Burgers and Drinks

If you have an appetite for a challenge, 25 Degrees Burgers and Liquor Bar is offering the World Cup 1-Meter Burger Board. It consists of four of their signature burgers and one turkey burger. It comes in a Team Special combo that includes the burger board as well as a bucket of five bottles of Carlsberg beer at $80++. Other promotions the bar is offering include a signature burger and a bottle of Carlsberg at $19++, a drinks special for a Carlsberg bottle at $12, four bottles at $35++ and six bottles at $55++. If you’re not into beer, they also have the Jim Beam Coke and soda at $12++ or $30++ for a jug.

These burgers and drinks are available until 15 July.

3. Cheers To That

While beer may be the drink of choice while watching football, themed cocktails may do a fine job of getting you in the spirit of the game. Club 55 at Marina Bay Sands has a series of drinks, including Tackle, a rum-based cocktail with mango and pineapple juices, and Kick-Off, a vodka-based drink with peach schnapps and peach puree. For an alcohol-free option, try the Rainbow Flick mocktail, which is a perfect blend of sweet and sour with a mixture of orange and lime juices.

These cocktails and mocktails are available until 15 July.

4. Team Spirit

Fans of hot favourites, such as England and France, can cheer on their teams via food at the Post Bar at The Fullerton Hotel Singapore.

Nibbles offered include battered pollock fish with fries and classic tartare sauce in support of England. Representative of France are duck rillettes and champagne ham with rustic sourdough. Even though Germany has been knocked out, you can still opt for grilled bratwurst and bockwurst sausages with sauerkraut and mustard. Or you can commiserate with the Japanese team with yakitori chicken skewers with togarashi, or the Mexicans with blue and white corn chips with guacamole and tomato salsa.

The bar also offers world beer and cider buckets - Strongbow (England), Corona (Mexico), Heineken (Netherlands), Budweiser (USA), Polanin (Poland) and Stella Artois (Belgium). Although not all of these teams are in the later stages of the World Cup, enjoy the clash of cultures in the form of beer with a bucket of 6 at $75 and 3 at $40. If you're looking to drink less, have a beer draft from Tiger Beer (Singapore), Erdinger (Germany), Guinness (Ireland) and Kirin (Japan). A full pint costs just $14, while half a pint comes at $12.

Not in the mood for beer? World Cup cocktails are available as well at $15 per glass - some of these cocktails represent France and Russia, in the running for the last leg of the season.

These drinks and snacks are available until July 15.

5. Party At Home

Nothing beats deep-fried snacks when it comes to creating the right party atmosphere at home to watch matches. Old Chang Kee has come up with two Soccer Fiesta sets consisting of the brand’s signature piping hot snacks available for home delivery. The Golden Ball Set, suitable for six to eight people, comes with fish balls, chicken and crab nuggets, gyoza, chicken wings and more. The Champion Set, suitable for 10 to 12 people, comes with more filling options like braised beehoon and big fish balls, a great option for the World Cup house parties.

These sets are available until 15 July.
