Michelin Awards Bib Gourmand Status to 75 Eateries In Hong Kong and Macau

Six eateries have been given the accolade for the first time.

The 2017 Michelin Guide Hong Kong Macau has named the 75 eateries that received the prestigious Bib Gourmand award in the guide's upcoming edition. This comes a week before 2017’s new Michelin-starred restaurants in Hong Kong and Macau are revealed on 9 November.

Among the 63 awarded eateries in Hong Kong and 12 in Macau are six newly awarded establishments that span the diversity of the territories’ culinary offerings. These are: Brass Spoon (Vietnamese), Ciak – All Day Italian (Italian), Liu Yuan Pavilion (Shanghainese), Sing Kee (Cantonese), Castiço (Portuguese) and Xin (HotPot). While the first four are in Hong Kong, the remaining two are located in Macau.
The Bib Gourmand status is awarded by the inspectors to establishments that offer a three course menu at a maximum of HKD300.

“The addresses selected this year by our inspectors reflect the local gastronomic scene and the cuisine that can be found in the streets of these two cities,” says Michael Ellis, International Director of Michelin Guides.

“Alongside Cantonese cuisine, the various restaurants and stalls in fact offer a wide variety of different Chinese cuisines. Whether Shanghainese, Indonesian, Szechuan specialities, or noodles or steamed appetizers, the Hong Kong and Macau gastronomic landscape has strong local cuisine of high quality offered at reasonable prices - to the delight of locals and visitors alike.”
